How do I change the thermostat on a 1982 Dodge Ram 250 Van?

First you need to drain the radiator. It may be easiest if you remove the engine box so you can get to the front of the engine. Where the upper radiator hose comes to the engine is the thermostat housing which is held to the intake manifold by two bolts. Remove the hose from the thermostat housing and the remove the two bolts. Then you can remove the housing from the engine, and then you can remove the old thermostat...it may be installed in the housing. Clean the mating surfaces of all the old gasket material and install the new thermostat exactly the same way the old one was and use some silicone sealer on the new gasket (I prefer hi-temp. black or red silicone). Put everything back together the same way you took it apart and then refill the radiator with fresh 50/50 mix of anti-freeze and DISTILLED water.
