MY new 05 diesel has a sound similar to a spark knock on acceleration. Dealership says they had the problem earlier in the year and computer flashing fixed it. Doesn't fix mine. engine also seems louder with 2500 miles on it now. In addition to the normal diesel rattle at idle, I hear what seems to be a slight knock. Anyone else having similar problems? Dealer tells me Chrysler has not returned their calls ie.. they don't have a clue.

I heard this scenario several times with the 600s and it is usually a bad injector and also usually the #6 for some reason. That's where I'd tell them to look......

I'd heard the same thing about the injectors, but what I read said #5. Suggested it to the dealer and got looked at like I was crazy. Wasn't the mechanic though. I'm giving them a call again next week and stir some sh**. You'd think that they would have it all down by now. No problems with your 40k purchase.

I haven't had any major problems with mine. Good luck with your dealer. You may want to ask around to find out if there are any dealers with a "Good" diesel mechanic. Most of the time it's just a guy trained on gas engines reading a diesel manual and trying to fix your truck.

My engine had the same problem, The #6 injector went bad at 12,000 mile and burnt a whole in the piston. It too had a knock from day one, the overall result was a burnt piston. Talk to cummins, access their web page and ask for a service teck to contact you. Tell them how much you love their product and will only be satisfied with a qualified cummins rep answereing your questions. Cummins has a bad tast in the way dodge handels their motors. 1 in 10 dealerships has some one qualified to work on the CTD.

I had the same prob when I tried to warrenty my lift pump. No diesel tech or a bad one. I just paid my norm mech to install it so I knew that it was done right. By the way, Mopar will not warrent the work unless it is done by a certified diesel tech at a Mopar dealership. Not that this mean that the mech knows anything other than how to read a book.

I ended up buying a new 2004, quad cab 4x4 ctd. I can faintly hear a ping in the motor. I reacently installed a B-1 turbo , at least the ping can't be heard now. I just hope this motor last longer than the last one.
