A friend of mine has had his Infinity for 3 months. He has been saying how fast his car is and that the Magnum would have no chance. Last night he had to put up or shut up. :engarde: We raced from 0-110mph on the old runway. Yes a real runway.
First run :I had him by about 15 feet. He said he wasnt really triing. Line them up again.
Second run : I got him by half a car and he took off early.. :whackit: Ohh Red light. Line them up one more time.
Third run : I took him again by about 15-20 feet.
He does have a fast car but he has to go home and tell his wife that there $39000. sports coup got beat by a station wagon. :bawl:

Tried to take on a Turbo 911 on the freeway today, just too crowded to get our cars together. I would have gotten dusted but I would have been all smiles anyway.

I also raced my friends 745 Li the day before same thing and beat him... I cant wait to get intake and exhaust and a chip when they come around to making 1. The magnum rocks!

GT Mustang?
One made the challange the other afternoon. His fatal mistake was making it at 65mph. I let him kick first and after a half car lead or so, I let the HEMI go. The MAGNUM smoked him easily. I slowed and let him come up. All he could do was nod and thumbs up. What a cool looser.

Yeah, the VQ35DE engine is overrated, IMHO. Look at the baseline dyno on the 350Z in my sig. Now, if that G35c was an auto, subtract about 10 from my value. Then add 200lbs to the weight shown in my sig. At 220whp/220wtq and 3400lbs, the G35c auto suffers in weight/power ratio dept. Manual is not much better, except bad driver can screw it up worse :). I finally got fed up of the slowness and slapped on a roots blower. Now its fine, like mother nature intended :D.

I've already posted this here but it fits with your story:
Over Christmas I had to visit my sister-in-law and her jackass husband. The big family outing (12 people) for the day was to visit the Houston Space Center…..as the sister-in-law lives in the Houston area.
We had to take three cars. My brother-in-law has a new Infinity G-35 sedan. He took my daughter and my niece. I had my other sister-in-law, her new husband and her 21 year old son. I was told to follow them.
He’s such a jerk, he tried to loose me in traffic, running every yellow light he could, weaving in and out of lanes and then when we got on the toll road he had a toll pass in his car so he doesn’t have to stop. Stop hell, he never even slowed down. I had to stop three times and throw 5 quarters in the receptacle, then speed back up to catch him.
The first time I caught him my daughter said he couldn’t believe it. The second time I caught him she said he got really mad. Hahahahaha Loose me? hahahahaha She said he sped up the last time I had to stop, but I caught him again.
He’s such a jerk, my daughter and niece laughed their butts off. My passengers didn’t mind, they don’t like him either.

I have a Dodge Magnum R/T, my wife has a 350-Z, my Daughter has a Dodge SRT-4 Neon.
All stock. all automatics.
The 350-Z won on a dead start, 5-mph rolling start and from 45-mph vs. the SRT-4.
The 350-Z on a dead start, easily beat my Dodge Magnum R/T 0-60 pmh
The 350-Z on a rolling start 45-mph. vs. Dodge magnum R/T, 350-Z won.
The Mercedes transmission and computer are the problems.

not when it kicks into 8-cylinder power.
I dyno'd the 350-Z before I bought it, it lost 18% to the wheels.
I dyno'd the R/T after I bought it, it also lost HP, 265-268 to the wheels.

Sounds like you are not preparing your RT for racing, sounds like you just kick it when it is in drive, What does the 350z run 0 to 60?

I believe it was 5.7 actual.
Look I like the Magnum.
My dealer makes it sad to own.
Dodges area rep. is also a negative influence.
I love the car with a roof rack, the dealers GM sold me their instock car, with a dealer installed roof rack when they became available. He Lied.
They wouldn't even install it when I found out where dodge had them in stock.
The car slams down on the least little curb or speed bump.
At 90-120 it is soft, the suspension lets the car waive from side to side with a strong (25-mph) cross wind it wants to fly, literally.
I love the esp.
I just bought the towing pkg. from the dealer, there is no wiring harness, they want $200+ for that. and another $300 to install it.
A complete suspension change will most likely be needed for any kind of towing.

My magnum rt runs 5.5 to 5.8 in this hot weather down here, the other morning we were down in the 30s I ran a 5.17. You have to prepare the magnum for running, take the gear shifter and put it in 3rd gear when you take off. also may want to take the traction control off. I bet you will be stareing at the 350z all the way down the strip.

it does sound like you have a bum deal with your dealer, I had the hitch installed at the dealer, it is really sweet you can't see it at all. including the wire harness as well. my car rides great at high speeds, but can't say I have been doing a lot of turning to see how it handles at those speeds.

My wife is looking at the Caddy crossover. The V-6 sucks but the V-8, it kicked but.
My rear says it is quicker at 0-60 but the top end is lacking and My Magnum would walk away from it.
I'm not sure how they match on paper.
My wife is selling her white 2003 (how ever they date the first year) Nissan 350-Z touring, including including Navigation, loaded low miles.
I only get to drive it on weekends or to dinner. very well maintained.
$ 25,750.

Hey Lobo,
The 350-Z is a great car, and would win in any kind of race against the R/T. But let's see your wife do it while caring a guitar, an amp, a ladder and twelve 2x4s. LOL :thatfunny

My RT transmission also shifts very slow. I notice quite a delay in throttle response and a delay in shifting after moving the shift lever. I've been told that this is controled by the computer. "The Mercedes transmission and computer are the problems." I must agree and like others, look to the time of the programable replacment. I also seem to have a problem with performance. At 1012 mi. on OD my 0-60 by stopwatch was 5.8.
At 1500 mi mi time was 5.9. at 2000 mi my time was 6.2. at 2400 6.8 and at 2900 7.4.
same patch of road and same stopwatch same driver all in auto mode esp on. Maybe at 5000 mi. it'll be 10.4 :o

Have you re-set the throttle response? There is a thread going on right now about that, I would really like to know if there is a measured difference after the adjustment. I did my throttle response adjustment about 3 months ago and found that it may require re-adjustment after some time of "normal " driving

I do now think that it is a stopwatch problem. It is erratic against my wrist watch.
