I have a 1998 dodge stratus and am replacing the hub assembly. I have removed the wheel, rotor, caliper, and the large nut that is in the center of the assembly connecting the axel to the hub assembly. I have also taken all 3 bolts off that are attached through the back of the hub assembly. The hub still won't come off. Am I missing something, is there some sort of retaining pin in the back of the hub assembly that is preventing me from pulling it off the front? Any help would be appreciated.

Be sure and double check me, but when I went through this on my 2000 Stratus, the shaft going through the hub (bearing) assembly had to be pounded out. It is in there very tight. I think I had to put the 3 bolts back in the back of the assembly to hold it in place while I would strike the outside end of the shaft to knock it back through the assembly. WORD OF WARNING, be very careful how you hit it, and maybe you can find a press of some type to to push it back though. I ended up damaging some of the threads on the shaft, and flattening the end of it. Definitely worth looking to see if you can rent some special tool to press the shaft out of the bearing assembly. Hope this helps.

I have been able to remove that shaft, I now can't get the actual hub assembly out. Does anyone know if I need a special tool to remove it and once I get it out will I need a press to put the new one in?

I know that its been a couple of months, but were you finally able to remove the hub? If not, maybe I can help. I just replaced both of them on my 2000 SE.

the replacement of the hub was it for wheel bearing noise. I have a noise from the passenger side in drive that when I speed up so does the noise. When I put the car in reverse the noise is heard. Not sure if it is the hub or drive axle which has a little play in it.

I replaced the front hubs due to the bearing being very loud on the autobahn at high speeds. I didnt hear too much noise in reverse, but I wasnt going very fast. When you hear the noise, are you going fast? What kind of noise do you hear? There is only so many things that can be making a noise when you speed up on the passenger side. Tires, brakes, driveshaft, bearing, or maybe something thats rubbing against the tire. Let me know if you figure it out.

still out on this one. I keep leaning toward the transmission. Drive axle has little play, hub assembly no grinding, winding sound or play with car on stand and wheel off when I move by hand. probably going to have to bring it to garage. thanks for your reply
