Here's the story. I inherited a 1992 Dodge D-350, Cummins, 5 speed Cab & Chassis a few years ago. It is a 159" wheelbase model. It was also upgraded with a Banks Stage 3 kit and Powerwagon injectors and is turning about 750ft/lbs in its current state. For sentimental reasons, selling the truck is not an option.
I want to convert it to a pickup. I have acquired a practically new dually bed from a 92. I got it from Rust Free in Iowa. This thing looks like it rolled off the showroom floor yesterday.
To convert it over, I know I need to reduce the wheelbase from 159" to 131". I will be undertaking that project next weekend.
I did not, however, plan on the rear axle being too narrow. While measuring everything today, I realized the space between the rear wheels on a Cab & Chassis is only 48.5" but I need at least 53" to clear the wheel wells in the bed.
Am I in for a new axle assembly here or is there some kind of spacer I can use?
Thanks,
Mike O.
