After scowering the planet, I finally found the Cummins I wont. I got a '99 2500 4x4. This is my first diesel truck, I used to have a little mercedes diesel though. What kind of things should I do right off the bat as far as maintenance, since I don't have records of when anything was done. I am aware of the need to get a fuel pressure gauge and have read many stories on here about the lift pump issues. I live in the Kansas City area, so it can get quite cold (10 degrees F this morning). What kind of cold starting/warm-up/when to plug in tips does everyone have? How often should I change the oil, and what kind of oil should I get? Fuel Filter? Any helpful tips or maintenance items, or links to such information would be appreciated. Thanks for everyone's help in answering my previous questions the last few days.

Hey man ... Congrats on the new Cummins ... You'll love it.
Id' have the oil changed a long with the radiator fluid. Change your oil every 3000-5000 miles. As far as other things like this go ... the other guys on here will help you for with that ... there like pros when it comes to diesel's ... Im just a novice. lol
I plug mine in if it gets below 25. So you'll definitly be plugging your in.
As far as gauges ... run them. Egt, boost, fuel press. If its an automatic run a tranny temp gauge. If your a stick ... then dont worry ...
Im a stick and I ran EGT, Boost, and oil temp. Good luck with everything and enjoy it.

I know the book says we're good for 7500 miles between oil changes but my Dad always told me that oil is cheep and engines are expensive. Mine gets drained and filled every 3000 miles. I add 2 qts Lucas oil additive and a new filter, and every other change she gets a new fuel filter too. Lately I've been using another of Dads tricks, Marvel mystery oil, I add a quart to the fuel at each oil change, keeps the pump and injectors clean and lubes the valves etc.
Good luck with the CTD, you'll love it... Chris
