I have a really nice 88 250 4X4, and I am trying to figure out a problem with the steering. I purchased the truck That had a 4" lift kit on it (The brand of lift kit I don't know). The truck initially did not want to come back to center after going around a corner, so I had the caster checked and it was off a bit. After changing the caster angle, and at the same time changing all four of the ball joints, it was improved but still "weird". Last week I was going around a corner, and in the middle of the corner, I felt a little lateral movement and had to turn the wheel a little bit to keep the same line around the corner. Everything seems to be tight, but obviously I am missing something. Anybody have any ideas?
Thanks

check the rag joint down by the steering box, it might be wore out. lifted trucks usually steer a little funny anyway cause there's so much room for play between the tires and the steering wheel. tall tires have a lot of flex in the sidewalls. you might want to check all the tie rod ends and the idler arm. steering box could be getting weak. lift kits and big tires bring out any weaknesses in the system.

I believe that they had front leafs in them at that time, you might want to check the center pin on all the leaf springs (front and rear). They sometimes break and you have no way of knowing unless you check them. When they go out it will tend to have the same symtons that you are describing. Good luck.
