Hello, we just got our pickup just like yours
and it really pulls our camper with no mods at all. It is a super pickup, noise and all. The most fun is passing other brands on the long hills.. Enjoy your pickup.

Wait til you put an edge ez box on it. I test drove a truck 01 2500 qc auto, let's just say, with this minor mod, it wakes the truck up. Just do some reading up on these trucks and you wouldn't believe what they're able to do {hp and torque wise**. And the added bonus is you will pick up mpg as you do mods. An ez box gives you 1-2 mpg. I guess i should say the correct terminology for mods on a diesel truck is called "bombing".

roho,
Welcome to the site, and also to the world of Diesel Ram owners. There are a lot of mods that you can do to the Cummins diesel. Things you will want to think about before you do any mods are 1)What do you really want it to do? More towing power? Quicker acceleration? Etc. 2)What do you want to spend? 3)Take into account future mods when making your purchases. 4)Are you willing to do a little research before you buy, or do you usually buy on impulse? The reason I ask this last question is quite simple. People will love to jump in and tell you that you NEED to get this mod or that. Absolutely no offense intended, but what Daver6 replied is a good example of that. Now the Edge products are very good, and do an excellent job. I don't know of anyone that has been disappointed in their products. It may be what you end up getting anyway. But an educated consumer is always the best consumer. There is a website devoted purely to the Dodge Diesel trucks, and it is the place I go to when I do my research and have big questions that others can't answer. But a lot of the guys giving the advice on that site, are representatives and/or salespeople for various products, and do a great job of promoting their products. I am not saying Daver6 is doing this at all, as I don't know him. And while I think of it, Daver6 and Dakotapicker, welcome to the Dodgetalk.com site!!! Some products work well with other brands, and with future mods you may want to do, while others don't. Ask lots of questions. Lots and lots. The only dumb question, is the one you didn't ask, and wish down the road that you had. My truck is slightly modded. I played it conservatively, because word on the street is that Dodge will void your warranty if any mods are done to the Diesel at all. Granted, legally, they can't do this, but they have taken the stance that you will need to take them to court if you need a repair, and your warranty has been voided. I don't know about you, but I can't afford a lawer to go up against one of the "Big 3". My warranty will be running out in a few months, when I hit the big 100k on my truck. Then I will finish some of the mods I want to do. My truck the way it sits now, will outrun a V-10 truck, and will accelerate as hard as most cars from 50mph on up to over 100mph. It will also pull my GTX on a car trailer up and down most hills, with the cruise control on, and without downshifting.
So, in summary, you have a great truck, even if left stock. If you want to do any mods, then do a little reading, and some asking questions. People will love to tell you about their truck and what they did. Make the decision that is best for you. And by the way, the "bombing" that Daver6 was referring to is based on the word BOMB, which stands for Better Off Modified, Baby!!!
Enjoy your truck!!!

Roho let me start by saying youre going to love the CTD. FIRST AND FORMOST. The most important thing to add to any diesel especially a CTD is Gauges. Fuel pressure and EGT gauge min. Second, if you have a auto I'd stay stock. More times than not the Edge box will push over the limit of the stock auto tranny. The lift pump is the biggest problem causer of these trucks and the only way to monitor it is by adding a fp gauge. If the lift pump fails it will take out the injector pump costing $1800 for a rebuilt one. Good luck

Roho, Sounds like you have a nice truck. The very first modification is gauges. Pyrometer, Fuel Pressure and Boost are a minimum. If you have an automatic then a transmission temperature gauge would be wise.
