1997 Dodge Dakota 3.9L V6 around 151,500 miles- do regular service

I have a problem. When I shift out of park everything is normal. Everything is also normal if I don't go back into park. Drive to reverse to neutral, all fine. But when I shift back into park my rpms go really low, the engine threatens to cut off. Actually, it has cut off a fews times. Now when I shift into park I hit the gas and it does not do it. Or offsets the loss in rpms.
Friend says it could be the torque converter.

Help would really be appreciated

Welcome to Dodgetalk!

hhhmmmm thats a strange problem you have on your hands. I would think if it was a converter problem you would notice some sort of problem in all the gears and not only park.

Could be a problem with one of the sensors on the Valve Body(VB). When was the last time you changed the trans filter, or did a trans flush??
