Hey all you Ram Van owners...has this happened to you? My driver's side wiper tends to lift off the glass at highway speeds. When it's raining it doesn't wipe the water properly. I've installed new TRICO OEM fit wiper blades and checked the spring tension on the arm and it feels okay to me. My passenger side wiper doesn't do this.
What do you all think? I'm thinking a new arm, but maybe a different set of blades perhaps?

I've seen this on a few cars; it is a curved piece of metal that you attach on the arm of the wiper. When you drive, this curve piece of metal catches some wind so it 'pushes' the wiper 'tighter' to the windshield.
I apologize as I don't know what it is called, and I hope my description is somewhat ok. I am guessing 'wiper deflectors' ?

Don't know if it's coincidence or not, but I also bought Trico exact fit wipers (#162), and have the same problem on my 77 B200. I figured it had just been bent or something and was going to grab some arms from a newer van on my next trip to the Pull-A-Part.
Dodgevanman, do you know if newer arms will fit?

Well, my '94 B250 uses the "pin" type arm that holds the blade. I also use TRICO 162 blades. I think in '98 the arms changed, but I'm not schooled on the types of arms used throughout the years. At the very least you might be able to get new springs for your arms.
I'm going to switch back to ANCO blades and see what happens...they're built differently. I know my windshield isn't grooved, I just had a new one put in and it did this on the old windshield anyway. It's weird that it's only the driver's side.

Since it's raining right now (big surprise in Seattle), I think I'll try swapping arms side for side, see if the problem switches sides or not, and report back w/results.

'97 Dodge Ram 2500 Cargo Van:
Hi,
I also have this problem with my wiper-blades.
It starts at speeds over 110 Km/h (~65 mph).
I am using ANCO blates, but the original ones did it too!
I was thinking about mounting a 'curved piece of metal' (nobody knows the name of it :D ) onto the wiper arms to press them down with the wind.
But I now have this problem since 8 yrs, so now I am thinking its saver to drive slower when its rain!

1. With a Slant 6, I don't even attain speeds to worry about the wipers! :thatfunny
2. I'd be interested to know it the "newer" style wiper arms would work. Our Church has a 99 B350 15 pass van. I like the arms.
3. I tried to install interval wipers in my 80. Got as far as the dash switch but could not find the "interval module" any ideas? My Haynes/Chilton's were vauge. Has any one tried this?
Dodge vans are hard to find in the bone yards around here. One JY owner told me thats because they are still on the road!! What a testament to these work horses! :ylsuper:

I don't think the 98-2003 arms will work....the windshield is different and the arms are longer I believe.

No big conspiracy (at least in my case) after all.
Switched arms side for side and problem switched side for side so passengers will have to live with it for now.

Hmmmm, I may try that, but it will still get on my nerves.

I don't know if this will help, but I saw these new wipers on TV :
