not a week old but I had to see if the 128mph thang was the case and sure nuf it was.
Man, I dunno why I was disapointed. Honestly, that was the first time I had ever done 128 and the fact that it was disappointing was as weird as it was expected. I've never needed to go faser than this but the dadgum speedometer goes to 160... coudlrnt they tease me mw with 150?
Or was I just showing signs of hemi addiction?
wanting more
needing it
hating having less than exists.

damn you, dodge

I'm now jonesing.
thanks so much.

Most vehicles don't even come close to what the top speed is on the speedometer. The manufacturers just want you to think the vehicle can hit the top speed.

FYI - the speed limiter is there by a federal mandate because of the speed rating of the factory tires for one thing. I have been told that if you put higher speed rated tires on and then go to the dealership, there is a setting in the 'puter where they can raise the speed limiter to match what your tires are rated at. I have an appointment with my service department this next week to "experiment" on the Magnum and see what can be modded via the system and what can not.

I'm not sure what my tires are rated at. I'll have to look em up.

Here is a little guide that will help.

Rating Max Speed In MPH

R 106MPH
S 112MPH
T 118MPH
U 123MPH
H 130MPH
V 149MPH
W 168MPH
Y 187MPH
Z 187MPH-PLUS !!!

This will at least let you know what your current tires are rated and give you a guideline for future tire/performance questions.

My 528i was limited to 123mph. When I upgraded the computer software, (Similar to changing out a chip) it removed the limiter, in addition to allowing 200 RPM more till cuttoff and helping acceleration slightly.

I don't get it. My wife's 2004 VW Passat 4cyl 1.8 Turbo came with H rated tires that it appears can go faster than the stock tires on my Magnum RT? Why did Dodge go with such a low rating on such a potentially fast car?

My tires are Toyo Proxes S/T
255 45 R20 105V

So are they V at 149 mph?

also, and I hate to admit this, the rims came from the dealer. All they say on em is FORGED. I've never heard of that brand, if it's a brand.
Can anyone educate me on em? They look fine... other than some slight rust where alan wrenches were used to place the center pieces. They were on the car when I got it so I know nothing about em.

forged is the method by which they were manufactured....its not a brand

Mine came with Continental tires. :WHT: I think they're bias ply...cotton belted...made from recycled pencil erasers. Worthless in snow. :tdwn:

Is this something on one of the EVIC menus? Sure would be neat-o if you could do it yourself, but I'm not holding my breath. After all we live in Lawyerland.

If this story (i.e. change the speed rating and dealer changes the limiter) can be confirmed, I see a good reason to sell my Conti's along with my RT wheels when I put on the chrome customs.
