Hellou, hellow fellow online forum mates :rck:

(van w/ 3.8L V6, tvs, power side/rear doors, all fancy -expensive model-)

the Grand Caravan's tranny went today...while my mom was...still is...outside USA, while i was moving the car to take mine out. The gear went in really hard and i knew what'd happened so i took for slight spin and sure, it was gone...wont shift past 1st.

So...business. I'm sure this tranny will cost $4000 unless, there was a reacall or the tranny warranty is still valid...right now, it has 62,000miles.

PLEASE help me out or etxx gets it! Thanks, i'll check out the dodge forum meanwhile.

btw* i'm an accura affitionate and belong to acura-tl.com's forums, this is my ride:

It depends on whether or not you mother purchased the extended warranty when she bought the van. A call to the dealership could determine that.

Have you checked the fluid level? Engine idling in neutral, check the fluid, should measure beween the add and full mark cold and at the full mark hot.

Will the transmission shift through the gears if you manually move the shift lever from 1st to Drive?

yeah, i did check fluids and its alright, i also tried putting the shifter from 1st to seconds and so on..but nah man, the gear goes in really hard now...Oh, this might make me look stupid but wateva, the van is a chrysler town and country :D, still a 3.8l v6 etc, etc. kinda looks the same as the caravan. anyhows thanks, more info is appreciated!

Will the tranny shift into gears when the engine is warmed up ?

By the sounds of it, I'd say your tranny needs a rebuild. Same thing happend to my dad's 84 Reliant s/w, 2.6. When the engine was cold it would shift rather hesitantly into 3rd but when warmed up, it wouldn't make it past 2nd.

BTW, was the tranny ever serviced ? And if it was, do you know what kind of tranny fluid was put into the van ?

BTW, if the dealer rebuilds the tranny is shouldn't cost $4000, unless you plan on buying a brand new transmission. My mom's 95 Caravan, 3.0L, required a tranny rebuild at 66 000 kms and the total bill came to $1200 CDN (parts and labour).
