Just bought a 1975 D-100. Need to give it a tune up!
Am going to put on new dist. cap and rotor. 1982 is as
far back as the dealer goes, will that 318 cap & rotor
fit my 75 318? What are good plugwires? Should
I run Bosch platnumn spark plugs in her? Also
I should say my money tree died so I dont have BIG bucks
to spend on parts. Thanks for your help!:dunno:

I have a 76 running bosch platinums and it works great. I would also recommend a K&N air filter. The Cap and rotor should fit.

If your dealer's knowledge only goes as far back as the books say find somewhere else to spend your money. Maybe another dealer or an aftermarket parts chain.
Avoid caps with aluminum inserts. Go for brass.
Wells in one manufacturer that uses brass.

listen to those two guys. bosch plugs are great, a k & n filter is worth the expense, don't waste money on cheap parts. the price may be lower, but that old adage, you get what you pay for, is very true. the last good plug wires i bought had spiral wound cores and silicon covering. if she's not an oil leaker, good synthetic oil is also worth the extra money.

not to contradict anybody, but platinum plugs are probably not necessary, i have a 72 d100 with a 318 & i found that the regular bosch super worked just as good without the added expense. that's with points though, it may be different with elec. ignition. i've also had very good luck w/ accel wires

Are you looking for that extra "edge" or are you happy "if it starts"?

A K&N filter is worth the $$ if your after the performance
You could change your ignition box to a crome one for performance as well (any real dealer should have that).

If you just wanna put around (who would?) you shouldda put the ole factory champion plugs back in it,,,, the work too

Bosch Plugs and Wires, Balkamp (NAPA) conventional oem replacement cap/rotor, rebuilt distributor, rebuilt alternator, good to go, autolites carboned-up too quick.
