Egr Valve

I Have A 1976 Dodge Trademan Van with A 318 engine, the gasket on EGR valve keep burning out, I have replaced the gasket & EGR valve with no success, they still keep burning out. The manifold looks good, althought it gets real hot and the paint burns off, around the EGR hole. I am at loss. If anyone has any useful/helpful information I would greatly appreciate it.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong on this, but the EGR pulls in hot exhaust gases from the exhaust to recirculate.

If the exhaust gases are running hot enough that it burns the EGR gasket, I'm thinking either your exhaust is plugged somewhere or it is too small (not able to vent the hot exhaust gases quick enough).
