alright here, i've got a lil situation on my hands here.. here's how it happened. I as crusing my way back down to new orleans from bolxi ms, and well my RC was running ok, and i got into new orleans east and my trans started slipping, i kicked it down from drive to second, and it was rolling down the street, but i didn't want to drive it in 2nd for 20 miles, so i stopped at a gas station and i checked the trans fluid, it's a nice brownish red color and it's low. so i added trans fluid and it rolled again, but this time it's shifting soft, and it's starts slipping again, so i kicked into 2nd again and it was going ok then i thought that since i'm doing 45 i might as well put it in drive, once i did that I had nothing, pulled over to the side and i've got nothing, but park. and then i put it in neutral there's a loud screeching sound and i feel it vibrating, is the trans shot? or is it a quick fix? i was either thinking that the filter was dirty and or the trans lines are dicked up. I'm out of ideas here, and if anyone has any ideas what might be the problem please help me, it's one problem after another with this thing... oh yeah it's an 1989 RC 5.9, with 95,600 orignal miles on it.. what's going on? and does anyone know what kind of reans is in there 727 with a lock up? that's where i'm fuzzy on.. thanks for your help in advance..

Doesn't look good man. Sounds like it's time for an overhaul. Had the transmission fluid and filter ever been changed?

If the transmission is overdrive then should be an A518, which is basically an A727 with OD. If it isn't OD then it is an A727, but then again it may be an A904 or A999.
You might have a sticker attached to the underside of the hood that may give you what transmission it is, or you can tell by what the transmission pan looks like. I'll see if I can dig up some pictures.

Okay here's some pics of the pan gaskets which reflect the shape of the pan and, in essence, will tell what transmission you have.

dodgevanman, thank's a million, it's a 727 i just wanted to be sure i knoew what i was getting into. I haven't dropped the trans yet, but i don't think that it's going to look good. it drives fine when it's cold, ie shift smooth, but when it's warm it drops drive and i have to have it is 2nd until i stop then i have nothing.. then i shut it off for a few min and i have a trans again.. lol it's a funny truck!
