Hey guys, as much as a Mopar nut that I am. I never really got into much about the complexity of mechanical things when it came to changing things around on a car or truck. Anyway, I have a buddy that has a 86 Ram with a 318 auto 727 tranny. He pulled the motor out to build it up, but the tranny went kapoot. He has a replacement 727 tranny but it came off of a 360 motor. He wants to know if it will bolt up to the 318? Also, what kind of mods he will need to do in preparation of this. Like torque converter, etc? He didn't know that if he had to have a 318 727 tranny for a 318. I told him that a 727 will bolt up to a 318, 340, and a 360 for small blocks. Please correct me if I'm wrong. For some reason he wants another opinion. Please let me know what you think and I greatly appreciate any info so I can relay it back to him! Thanks!! AP

The 360 transmission will bolt up to the 318, but he should get a torque converter for a 318. I would be more concerned with transmission mount differences and total length of transmission. If the transmission is a different length than the original one, he'll have to have the driveshaft lengthened or shortened.

The 318 is an internally balanced engine whereas the 360 is externally balanced and the torque converter may have weights welded to it...you don't want weights.
