I have a 2000 dodge diesel 4x4 5spd swb. Iam blowing 20Amp fuses under my hood on my starter solinoid fuse location. The starter seems fine but every other day I go to crank the truck nothing happens all the guages work but it wont even click or turn over then I check the fuse in the fuse box under the hood and the same fuse is blown. Also my gas guage quit working and I got a code reading on my odometer that said P 0462? any help would be much appreciated. The dodge dealership quoted me 600 to replace my starter/ thanks Zach

P0462- Fuel level sensor circuit, low input. Id replace the starter if you cant find a wire loose on the harness at the starter, or at least the solenoid. The code is probably due to the blown fuse for the starter.

I see new starters on ebay for about 140, so that means 460 in labor. Im in the wrong business.

It sounds like you have a melted field wire in the starter thats on there now. I'd bet the 50 is a waste. A melted field wire will cause a short and that means blown fuses. Rebuiling a starter does not include re-winding the fields. You may be getting enough RPM's to start and then it quits. If you're going to pull the starter anyway, buy one at NAPA and have the old one "rebuilt" for the 50 bucks. Then you may have a backup.
