Hello everyone, I just completed my project. Since the 2.4 in the wrangler is the same as the SRT-4 minus the turbo i bought all the parts i needed and had a shop hook it all up. needless to say i have plenty of power, but i need more. And i was also wondering what mopar performance uppgrades could i buy that would work on this engine in a jeep body. I hope i explained this clearly if not im sorry,i will clarify if there are any questions.

WOW!!!! Thats the first Turbo Wrangler i think i've heard of..... u gotta post some pics of that!!! Mopar has the performance stages for the neon, stage 1 through 3, im sure that would work on you're wrangler!!

Haha that is the coolest thing I've heard anyone do in a long time! You might even be able to put the MOPAR SRT-4 turbo upgrades on that baby!

i am trying to get some pics of it on here but i am having problems with the intercooler, there wasnt really enough room in front of the radiator and i cant go any lower because it would be out in the open and not protected. Since i do off road i cant have an unprotected intercooler. I am trying to figure something out. since i was having problems fitting it behind the grill i was thinking of custom makeing the tubing and top mounting it. there is plenty of space under the hood. what do you guys think.

You shoulda had the shop that put it together find a spot for the intercooler, they didnt do that?? Otherwise, i'd top mount it....

well let me clarify what i mean by shop, my friend owns a shop and he and i along with some other employees hooked this all up, we mounted it under the grill but it covered the whole radiator, there just is no room for it up front. Bow do you mount a top mount intercooler? what i mean by that is the actual core, how do you kep it in place.

You could also shell out for a smaller core and do a side mount, like the VW 1.8t's use. Then just use some custom ducting to funnel air to it.

Problem with a top mount is getting the air to pass through it, do you plan on putting a subaru style hood scoop on the jeep? Also have to think about heat soak...

Top Mount IC = REALLY INNEFFICIENT. Subaru is the only one in the world that still uses this flaw'd deisgn. There is TONS of room infront of a Jeep Radiator for a IC core. While it might block all your Airflow to the raditor, with a 4 cyc it really shouldn't be a problem...

I was totally unaware that the 2.4 was used in the Jeep too, I didn't think they where a DOHC motor, that's kinda dumb to put in a wheeler.

I'm just waiting for the CDI Wrangler, I think I might have to go buy one of those (if they do ever make it) I took out a CDI Liberty, I was VERY impressed, feels WAY faster than the POS 3.7 counterpart... Wonder if it'd fit in a Dakota... Hrm... PROJECT!

Why is it dumb, its more powerful in every way in comparison to the old 2.5?
Plus more fuel efficient. Are you aware that the 2.8 Diesel is also a dual overhead cam?

Subaru uses a top mount intercooler so they don't have to have 6 feet of intercooler pipe going to the front of the engine bay and then all the way to the back. Based on how the boxer engine is mounted it is the most "efficient" solution for that motor. You put a front mount on a subaru, get ready for some lag.

Like I was saying, do a side mount if you don't feel comfortable putting one in front of your radiator.

James, I feel the DOHC design is kinda dumb in a Jeep because DOHC are ment to rev up high and have good HP numbers, Jeepin (atleast any I've ever done) needs Low end torque... Kinda opposites.

Again, about the CDI, it's got Low End torque since it's a Diesel.. Thus I like it!

Step #1 was the problem, having a Subaru to put a FMIC on in the first place!

I would go have a custom radiator made and than mount the IC beside the radiator in a vertical position. You can cut down the width of your radiator if you get a good aluminum unit. Also if you have room, you can extend it farther vertically, take it a little farther up and a little farther down. It will cost you a good amount of $$$$ to have one made, but it will work, and you don't have to worry about overheating. Just make sure you do lots of measuring, and checking, and re-checking before you tell them the dimensions you want.
