I bought a 2002 Grand Caravan with 40k km. It has 3.8L and 4 speed steptronic transmission. At low throttle shifts from first into second, I sometimes get a harsh shift. It gives a jerk before going into second gear. All other gear shifts seem smooth. Under heavy throttle the shift seems normal. The dealer has replaced the TPS and reprogramed the TCM and PCM. They claim to have done a road test. The problem still occurs. It is more noticable on an incline at very light throttle.
Has anyone had this problem? Any information would be appreciated.

Sounds as though you are experiencing the infamous Chrysler transmission "shudder". I have had that at the shift point between 2nd and 3rd since I bought the car and Chrysler tried 5 times to repair it, unsucessfully. I entered into arbitration and they were ordered to repair it and didn't but assured me it was harmless. Now 85K later, the same problem is occurring in OD. This time I am taking them to court. My guess is that the problem is a design flaw that they would find too costly to take responsibility for on a large scale. Good luck.

Mine does it every now and then. But I just live with it. Was very concerning when I first got the van but really don't notice it anymore.
