Just got a new 05 GC SXT. Sticker says it has the RKE/Engine Immobilizer. Sticker also says it has the Premium Group which has the Vehicle Security System. Is the "Vehicle Security System" the same as an Alarm System? The manual talks to the Immobilizer system and a "Theft System" but doesn't mention anything a Vechicle Security System. The description of the theft system talks about how to arm the system and get the flashing light on the dash. If I try to "arm" my system, I do not get any flashing light. The Immobilizer/Theft light does light up for about 3 seconds when you turn the key "on" and then goes out. Can anybody shed any light on this? Do I have an alarm system that is not working or is there no alarm system in the Vehicle Security System (whatever that is)??? Confused.

This is a form of anti theft , this system is electronically bound to the key you have with the built in FOB . Your van can not be started without the correct key . Have this in our Town and Country . So you also cannot just go out to your local store and get a key cut anymore , if you want more than the 2 keys you have it will cost you about $80 to get a extra key . It uses a RF signal between the key and what they call a SKREES which is in the steering column which in turn is sends a signal to the car computer . This won't keep anyone from breaking in but they will never be able to drive away without this special key .

Yes ... I understand that is the RKE/Immobilizer.... but what is the "Vehicle Security System" that is part of the Premium package. The RKE/Immobilizer is standard on the SXT ... the Premium Package was about $1200.

WOW, this is the third van that did not get the alarm activated by the factory. Mine also did not work when I first purchaced it from the dealer. Take the van to the service dept. and they will activate it in the vans computer to make it active. Then when you lock the doors with the keyless entry there will be a flashing red LED in the upper right hand corner of the dash gauges. It flasher for about 15 sec. Hope this helps. :)

Ditto to what bluer said. Take it to the dealership and have them activate it. Mine also has the security system that was not activated. Took the dealership about 5 minutes to get it done.

Well .... I now have an alarm system that works!! It was as simple as stated. Droped it off at the dealer and got a call about an hour later that said it was ready ... sure enough ... it works.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction ... hopefully everything else will stay working properly .... I must say I get more disappointed with evey new van I buy. They just keep removing things and making them cheaper. They ought to at least offer some of the things as options ... such a lighting switches, etc.

:D

Mine is fixed also.....the techs at my dealership had to be convinced that the system was not activated. 2 service guys told my salesman that ieverything looked fine and that it should work fine. RIGHT!!!

They said this was the only one they had run into that was not programmed. Makes you wonder how many more are out there that are not actually working.

Thanks fellas,

I have a 04 Anniversary edition SXT. From what I can tell it has just about everything. I was hit by a drunk driver :VHOT: and had extensive damage. A main box under driver's fender had to be replaced. This came in blank and bodyshop had to have a dealer shop program it. I've never seen the red light addressed in manual. Yesterday when I pushed my unlock botton horn and lights began flashing. I could do nothing to stop it. I drove right to body shop (had vehicle back for 2 weeks). We pulled horn fuse but lights continued. Finally it stopped (reset?). Guys in shop said I had alarm but didn't know it. I left van they are contacting Dodge. I had them lock door with window down and reach in and open door..nothing. Any thoughts?? Main question is does anyone know if 04 SXT Anniversary edition should have alarm?? Thanks
