i have a 01 grand caravan sport 3.3 flex a have some probs i need some advice on to see if anyone can give me some advice.....

*get 15-16 mpg in city and about 22-23 on highway (just did a tune up and helped it just a tad.)
*driving through the hills and mountains the front brakes start smoking and smelling after just a few minutes. (go through a set of pads a month)
*Gas gauge will flicker from full to empty every once in a while.
*When driving at night with the heater on my power dims out frequently.
*and lately the tranny is starting to shift funny (74k)
*my headlight covers are cloudy (any suggestions on how to clean them?)

this is all i can think of right now, thanks for the help!!!

Welcome to dodge talk !

For fuel economy, I know that my dad's 98 Voyager 3.3 gets roughly 13.3L/100 kms, and I also know that 14.7L/100 kms is roughly 18mpg, so 13.3 should be higher. So 15-16 is somewhat low.

I'd check the easy things like clogged air filter, make sure tire pressure (cold) is correct all the way around. Do you know what kind of spark plugs they put in there ? Could be whomever put in the new spark plugs didn't gap and torque them correctly.

As for your brakes, on my truck if I apply the emergency brake, release it before driving, like you I can smell burning just after a few kms of driving. The dealer said something about metallic brakes doing this, so I can't confirm. Perhaps your rotors are warped ? Is the smell coming from the front or back ?

As for your transmission, when was the last time you had it serviced (drain fluid, new filter, new fluid) ? Make sure you use only chrysler specific automatic transmission fluid , it should say on the tranmission dipstick or manual.

As for yoru headlight covers, are they cloudy from the inside or outside ? If they are on the inside, I'm not sure if you can even take them out to clean them. On the outside, I'd use a plastic safe cleanser, and a sponge, as anything harsher may scratch the lense.

Sorry can't help you on the electrical issue.

yeah the plugs were put in by me and i torqued and gapped according to manual, i put in the platnium plugs that it called for. i was getting 13-14 mpg before that, when doing the tuneup i noticed a plug in the back that was broken in half (which was a pain in the ass to get to)

im running 21" rims so im sure that has alot to do with my mpg but i didnt think it would have too much of a diff. i have a tahoe with 22" and no diff at all, and a magnum on 22" and know diff at all

also the headlight covers have a sticky type film on there kinda like from tint or something,

,

Make sure your speedo is accurate.

Do you ride the brakes??? A set a month is a problem, unless you are putting major in towm miles on.
Do you drive with both feet??
