:help: Hi, My grandfather has a 1995 Intrepid with a 3.5, only 60k miles, and religiously maintained... he came out of the store yesterday and his car wouldnt start, acted like a dead battery, would just click, but not turn over. He had it towed to a garage, after a few hours the engine tried to turn over, but still was very slow in turning, and wouldnt start....
The garage checked the battery, which was fine, and installed a new starter. The engine immediately started, but had a noticible upper end "knock" or tap...they let it run for about 5 minutes, when all the sudden someone saw oil running out from underneath... they lifted the car and noted that the oil filter had EXPLODED, and blew the entire side out of it. They immediately shut off the car, changed the oil and the filter, retarted it, and it once again started fine, but within 5 minutes the second filter exploded under pressure. The guy has been a Chrysler technician for 12 years and said he has NEVER seen or heard one do this before... his only thoughts are a faulty/blocked oil pump, but the car had ran perfectly the day before, and has NEVER thrown a check engine light, oil light, etc... Anyone ever hear of this, or know what the fix is? my grandfather doesnt want to pay a fortune for them to work on it when they admiteddly arent even sure what the problem is, or if there is any other internal engine damage as a result... Any input or ideas would be appriciated... thanks! -Joe Barr
