I have a 97 Dodge Grand Caravan with the 3.8 and 16" wheels.
Several months back I could faintly here this sound when driving at 60 or more, when you swerved 1 way or the other it would go away, transmission shop hooked on the computer and things checked OK, he said front wheel bearings are beginning to go out. Several weeks later the sound got worse, so I replaced the front bearings myself. The right bearing rattled when you shook it and the left bearing had some play. I figured this was it, but no the problem is still there. A friend of mine who has a shop said it would be the drive shafts, he replaced both and the problem is still there. He gave up, and told me to take it to a trans. shop.
Keep in mind it sounds like it comes from the front and only when driving straight, when you corner the sound goes away. Sounds like the distant rumble of a helicopter.
It has low miles on the tires and the tires were rotated.
