After extensive searching about exhaust/mufflers on this forum, I decided to go with Magnaflow.

Love it.

My piping is still the stock 2.5" diameter. I just replaced the muffler with a 16" long Magnaflow turbo muffler. Also, chopped off the stock tailpipe and replaced it with a 3.5"x 16" Magnaflow stainless slash cut and rolled tip. I have it angled back to a 45 degree angle from centerline (vs 90 stock).

The sound is great, nice deep rumble at idle. Startup sounds mean and powerful. Light throttle and cruising its hardly noticeable (no drone), but mash on the throttle and listen to that big V8 ROAR :D

I have both the Magnaflow performance cat and Magnaflow muffler on my RAM

get compliments on the sound all the time

Since I can't run duals on my van because of the 35 gal. fuel tank, I'm going with a high-flow cat. from Summit and a Dynomax muffer or Magnaflow (what's better?). I'll use 3" pipe all the way back.

My old setup was a set of Hedman headers, 2 1/2" pipe and dual Dynomax Super Trubo mufflers. My new setup is Hooker Super Comp headers, 3" pipe and H-pipe, dual 3" Summit polished stainless turbo mufflers. I love the sound of turbo mufflers over any other style.

Just a 2 chamber flowmaster added to the factory exhaust. Sounds great.

90 degree bend out behind left rear wheel, same as factory, all I did was swap out the muffler. I went to the shop that day with intentions of having duels ran out under the rear bumper, on the phone the guy said it was no problem, once he saw it he said it was too tight. I have a 35 gal tank and a hitch, there wasnt enough room on the right side to run a pipe. So we left it all alone and just swaped a muffler, Im happy with the sound, just miss those 2 big tail pipes comming out from under the bumper. Maybe some day I will add a high flow cat to it.

The person who owned the van before me put on a glass pack that rusted out so I removed it, gutted the cat converter, and put on a Cherrybomb glasspack. It actually doesn't sound to bad I think the empty converter deadens the sound a bit and gives the exhaust a nice rumble not the rattle sound of a straight glass pack.

A previous owner of my 94 Ram Wagon installed a perfomance muffler in the center of van with dual exhaust pipes exiting each side of the vehicle just in front of the rear wheels. On two separate occations last year while towing my Neon, I ran over tire caracasses that tore off the tips. When I get a "round tuit" I'll replace the whole system. I like the Dynomax mufflers.

i have a single 3" exhaust from the cat. back using a flowmaster delta 40 and finished off by a 4.5" stainless tip. everyone says that they hear me before they see me, isn't that the way it's suppossed to be?

I had a '70 A-100 van with a 400 big block in it. My buddy said he could here me a half mile away coming down the back roads to his house. I ran 3" duals all the way out with Thrush turbo mufflers. Ah memories...that van is just a rolling shell now.

I've got a '92 Maxivan with the extra large tank. When it was time (finaly! Some times you have to justify the cost by waiting until the stock item need replacing.) to replace the exhaust, I wanted duals, but as everyone has said, there are space problems so I did the next best thing. I had 3" exhaust with a 2 chamber flomaster put on and splitting after the axle so I have 2 pipes straight out the back with stainless tips. This could be done because of the extra space behind the axle being a Maxi. I love the way it looks and sounds!

I've got a bunch of parts to start building a system. got my Magnaflows, (2) 10 foot sections of 2.25 stainless tubing, and a Bassini Xpipe. Still looking for headers. Luckily, I dont need cats.

I have a Dodge RAM B250 Royal Van -88. I have 2.5" from engine to catalytic converter, then 3" the rest of the way, no muffler at all. It is very silent, i´m gonna change it to 3" headers and 3" all the way with a fullflow catalytic converter.

DynaFlow Headers, 2 flowmaster 40 series and an H pipe, drops down in front of rear tire. Vans body lays out so it would crush the tips

Does anyone know if the headers for some of the Ram pickups will work on these vans? Mine is an '03 with a 360.
I noticed the Thorley headers seem to be kind of universal for the Rams and the Dakota/Durangos, but no listing for vans.
I would like to make it breath better at both ends.
I am enjoying the power, but mileage is kind of low on it.
A low restriction air inlet would be a good thing as I don't like hearing it suck through the straw(really hear the restriction as rpm rises) it has on it when I am in the passing lane.

gsmagnum, I totaly recomend a Fastman throttle body. I'm not real mechanicaly inclined, I had my son and his friend install it. Diddn't look difficult. The engine must breathe better. You could see how he improved the air flow by smoothing everything. The throttle response is much better. None of the lag I felt before. He's a great guy to order from.

You need to get headers that tuck in close to the engine. There isn't much room on either side of the engine because of the floor. Pickups have alot more room on either side, so I'm not sure if Ram or Dakota headers would work.

Maybe someone can post a pic of the headers they have on their van. Anyone? Anyone?

Thanks for the recomendations guys.
I think the first order of busines will be smoothing the air intake as that is what I am hearing.
No throttle bodies until she hits 70,000 mi. It is still under warrenty.

With all this talk about exhaust systems, I was thinking of just running straight 3" duals with no muffler, just a cat, on my 91 B250 318. I'm not sure how loud that would end up being, but if it's not too loud, but loud enough to sound mean, I'd go ahead and get that done, which would save me money on 2 performance mufflers. Of course, I have the 35 gallon gas tank aswell, so I'd have to have them come out the sides before the rear wheels.

Anyone got any soundclips of an exhaust system with only a cat? I want to hear what it would sound like before I go spending money on performance headers and all new piping without the muffler, only to get pulled over the next day for noise pollution, if it's too loud.

My dad had a straight 3" pipe after the cat on his 00 van, it sounded good. Rough enough to sound mean, but you could still talk over it.

dual 3" is a little excessive. I haven't seen any headers for these vans that go ta a 3" I just got a set of 2 1/2" headers and they are big enough. I use to have factory manifolds with 2 1/4" exhaust through flowmasters that sounded great. I rebuilt my engine so I upgraded to headers and an H Pipe. I'm wondering how I post a sound clip.

Yeah, I'm just debating now whether I should go ahead and fork over the cash to get a full true dual exhaust system with headers, mufflers and cats, or if I should delete the mufflers and keep the cats or vice versa, delete the cats and keep the mufflers. I don't really know which would have the best sound with my 318.

I recently took off my stock muffler and the piping leading to the tail, since it was already broken off from the cat, just dangling from the hangers. I wasn't too surprised that it sounded pretty much the same as it did before, just with a nice gurgle sound when I'm driving it. I was hoping it would've been atleast slightly louder when idling, but it was the same unless I'd rev it. I know it'll sound a lot better once I get some performance headers and some high flow cats, and maybe some performance mufflers too.

My problem now is just trying to find the right headers to use. I was looking into some Hooker and Hedman headers, and even some Mopar performance headers, but I don't know which ones would sound the best and perform the best. I'm definitely looking for 2 1/2" headers for the duals that I want, and everything after that I can basically figure out what to get next.

Any opinions on header brands?

A properly tuned exhaust system will be beneficial to the performance of the vehicle. Straight pipes may not be the way to go.

One thing to look for in headers is the thickness of the flanges. Thin flanges will be more prone to warpage which will cause leaks. The best headers are ceramic coated, won't rust out, and will reduce the temperature under the engine box. That's a good thing especially on a van.

I have 3" straight pipe from the cat and no muffler at all. I have 2 videoclips.

Wayne: Damn! Well of course your 440 would be loud as hell without a muffler with as much power as it puts out, but my little ol' 318 without a muffler or piping past the cat sounds like your 440 with a full exhaust.

Elajten: I currently have mine with only a cat and no muffler or piping at all and sounds like your first vid, but with the piping, it sounds a little more throaty, and I like that! I may just have to go with that setup.

Hehehe. I´m gonna buy Headers for my Dodge, maybe that will increase the sound a little =)

That sounds real nice! Time for me to find a shop that will install some piping on mine for cheap!
