Thousands of Chrysler PT Cruiser owners and their families from across the Midwest will cruise to the Chicago area in September to share a day of wild rides, live musical entertainment and, of course, cars. “The Chrysler PT Cruiser Block Party” is free of charge to PT Cruiser owners and takes place at Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, Ill., on Saturday, September 28.
Six Flags Great America will be open exclusively to PT Cruiser owners, giving attendees a special opportunity to enjoy the rides and attractions of the amusement park with fellow PT Cruiser owners.
"If you’re a PT Cruiser owner and devotee, this is a dream come true," said Vice President-Chrysler Marketing, Tom Marinelli. This will be a wonderful day packed with events and activities specifically about PT Cruisers. "It is our way of saying thank you, and it is only available to PT owners and their families."
"The PT Block Party is a unique event celebrating a unique vehicle. We wanted to capture the enthusiasm and passion that people share for the Chrysler PT Cruiser. This is the car that has been described as the vehicle that's 'too cool to categorize' which is one of the reasons people are so attracted to it," Marinelli said.
The PT Block Party gives people a preview of concept PT Cruisers and a chance to experience the performance and capabilities of the full Chrysler lineup of vehicles. Before and after they take a spin on the rides inside the park, attendees can drive any of several Chrysler vehicles on designed driving courses located in the front of the park. Additionally, guests can test the Chrysler 300M, Sebring sedan and convertible and Town and Country minivan on the driving courses.
The newest member of the Chrysler PT Cruiser family due out this fall, the 2003 PT Turbo, is available in some dealerships right now, and it will be among the cars available to drive throughout the day. Attendees will be able to test the PT Turbo on a test course designed to showcase the power and agility of the new vehicle.
Since the Chrysler PT Cruiser's launch almost three years ago, a number of PT Cruiser enthusiast web sites and car clubs devoted solely to the PT Cruiser have formed across the country. The PT Block Party will be the first owner gathering hosted by the automaker, and approximately 10,000 people are expected to attend.
The PT Block Party will capture the nostalgic images and sounds from the 1950s and 1960s. The day’s events will include an outdoor musical extravaganza and fireworks finale showcasing the music of Chuck Berry (Johnny B. Goode, Maybellene), The Shirelles (Dedicated to the One I Love, Soldier Boy), The Countours (Do You Love Me), The Tokens (The Lion Sleeps Tonight) and Little Anthony & the Imperials (Tears on My Pillow).
The concert's festivities will be emceed by Casey Kasem, the nationally recognized radio personality and host of the long-running countdown program American Top 40 with Casey Kasem.
A special customization area, called the "Speed Shop," will highlight the numerous ways to customize the Chrysler PT Cruiser. Representatives from professional aftermarket accessories companies will hold workshops and perform demonstrations to show PT Cruiser owners how to individualize their own engines, grilles, hoods, headlights and taillights.
In addition to the driving courses and customization demonstrations, owners may attend special roundtables with the engineers and designers who created the PT Cruiser. Roundtable participants will have a chance to ask vehicle questions, share ideas and viewpoints, as well as hear how other owners use their vehicles and what they’ve done to customize them. Customer input on future models will be encouraged in the roundtable sessions as well.
