this is my 1st post.
On the 79 b200 van. the sliding door won't stay latched. I have replaced the lock mech, the stuff at the handle ( junk yard part) Any ideas as to what keeps these doors closed. this has been a 3 yr project

Welcome Santowd!

I've got the split cargo doors, so I can't help you much... Did you check if the striker on the b-pillar may be slightly bent? It may also be that the latching mechanism on the door may be sticking (in closed position). Have you tried lubing it?

Good luck, I'm sure someone will be able to help (dodgevanman)!

Matt

yes thanks . I've done all that 3/4 times. i took it all part again today, this time I found that a coil spring on the rear of the door (latch) was broken

Did that fix it? I've only had one slider van, a 77, but they seem to be pretty simple in their workings. Was it the front or the back that wasn't latching?

I havn't had time yet to go to a junk yard after that part. around here a van with a sliding door is rare. The latch at the rear wasn't staying up. I ws thinking that the front mech (latch took care of that, but no it's the spring on the rear lacth. now what keeps the lacth down is still something I have to find out.

....sliding doors on the ram vans are a royal pain in the ass!! We had an 82 ramvan with a sliding door...you had to latch the front and then push the back part closed...and sometimes, you would pull the handle to open it and it would only open an inch and get stuck....Unfortunatley, we could never fix it. We just found new methods of working around it...needless to say, our newer 97 ramvan does not have the sliding door...good luck man
