I was wondering if any of you have seen or heard of this problem. Sometimes when I am just cruising I would say around 40 or 50 mph and I romp on it my truck shakes really bad like it is trying to go but it cant? and then it finally goes. Also when I have cruise set at about 79 mph at about 2100 rpm the rpms sometimes jump up for a second by itself. Any ideas????

stoner, theres a possibility its clutch chatter from the torque converter,or the rear. what type of fluid is in the trans, and do you have a friction modifier in the rear.

Well after I read my post again I realized I didnt give you all really anything about my truck so here it is. It's a 98 1500 QC 4x4 5.9L Automatic it has 80,000 miles on it.
Dano 360...It feels more like a rev limiter kicking in I guess. It only happens whenever I get on it really hard and not all the time. Could something in the throttle part be out of rig or something causing the rev limiter to kick in or something whenever I get on it. Or maybe my transmission slipping causing my rpm's to go to high??? Just a guess I am a jet mechanic not a truck mech. What do you think. Thanks

stoner, if it only happens when you hit it down, you could try adjusting the throttle valve cable.

I noticed today that the cables are kind of loose you know I mean they have some slack in them. Would that cause it to do that though? Why? thanks

stoner, the throttle valve cable adjustment varies from the factory. its real easy to adjust. you will see a white clip on the cable, pull the clip carefully and slide the casing on the back of the cable forward a little (mark your original location on the cable). only move the cable in 1/16 or 1/8 increments. this should help out, it will also change the shift points a few hundred rpm's also. if the 98 ram doesnt have the white clip it should be a button to realease the cable.

Should there be a little slack in the cables or do you want them to have no slack?
