Do you have an anti-theft system?

Some of the Dodge/Chrysler vehicles with factory anti-theft systems cannot have a remote starter installed. The type with the starter disable, 95 to 98 with auto trans are the ones affected. Installation of a remote starter on these vehicles will result in a start and stall condition.

Provided that doesn't apply to you: The PCM (Powertrain Control Module) is ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) sensitive. Failure to follow ESD procedures will result in damage to the PCM. The bad thing about ESD damage is that it does not show right away and when it does, it causes intermitant symptoms rather than total failure.

"To avoid ESD damage to the PCM, handle the PCM only by the case. Do not touch the electrical terminals during removal or installation. Ground yourself to the vehicle with an anti-static ground strap. (Available at computer supply stores) Once the PCM is removed, place the PCM in an ESD bag and store on an anti-static pad."

OK, the tachometer feed is the white wire on the PCM which is by the air filter housing. It's going to take some ripping/cutting of wiring harness cover, so have some electrical tape handy to re-cover it. BTW, this is not from the ignition, it is a computer generated feed to the guage from the PCM.

There is no tach signal in the traditional sense. The OBD-II systems (2.0l, 2.4l SOHC & DOHC, 2.5l, 2.7l and 3.0l) use the CKP and CMP sensors to simulate a tach signal. You may be able to use the CMP as a tach. Remember that the CMP also feeds into the PCM, so use ESD procedures here as well. The CMP is located:

2.0L and 2.4L DOHC - Back of the head.
2.4L SOHC - on the camshaft housing located at the end of the head.
2.5L and 3.0L - in the distributor
2.7L - Front of the front head.

Good Luck
