So here's the Deal

Yesterday I bought a 1992 Dakota 318 2wd Ext Cab, my new blue baby. This will be my 5th Dakota, I love these trucks.

Anywho, when cranking the steering wheel, there is a LOUD clunk/pop noise, when I lyed underneath the truck and watched, the entire steering rack was moving about 1/4"-1/2" side to side. The bushings that mount the rack look shot, but that doesn't seem like it would creat the popping noise.

Anywho I was wondering if anyone else had delt with a problem like this. Also most of the suspension bushings seem shot, If i get a "poly kit" would this include the Rack mount bushings? I was thinking of the energy suspension kit (unless someone knows of a better kit for the money)

Thanks for any and all help

Sounds like Balljoints, seems odd you've never experienced this as its a very common problem with the Dakota.

The hard part is getting the stock joints off. Once that's done, you can just unbolt the aftermarkets and replace.
