Hi neon owners.. I currently own a 2004 Dodge Ram Quad Cab..
I was wondering how much you guys payed for your neons.. I love my truck, but I think I'm paying a little too much for a vehicle I dont really need, and getting bad gas mileage to boot. I went to the dealership today, is a sunday so thy were closed, but i looked at the price tags of a few Neons..
I saw one, black, Dodge Neon SXT, power windows locks, automatic transmission, cd player.. the sticker was like 15 or 16... I thought neon's were cheaper tahn that? I thought i could grab one for about 10-12 grand... someone please fill me in on a reason to get or not to get a neon! thanks in advance.

Well you can pick up a good used 1st gen for $3500 or less and you could pick up a newer 00-03 for anywhere from $6000 to $9500.
The only real problem with Neons (not to sure about newer ones) is around 70-100K the timing belt and Headgasket need to be replaced. Neons are great lil cars for gettin around and are actually quite comfertable. If they do not have enough pickup for you there are a ton of aftermarket products out there for the Neon to help pick up the power

the sticker on my loaded 04 was 17,880. after rebates and incentives , and adding r/t exhaust, side skirts, rear bumper, and having them painted, i paid 14, 900 for it. it's a very solid car....it feels like a bigger car from the cockpit. if you're wanting to leave it stock, you'll have a nice solid, if underpowered ,sedan to commute in. if you want to modify, your wallet is your only limit.

Neon has great rebate programs. It is the end of the year, so rebates should be getting better.
My son is a Service Writer at South Holland Dodge (Illinois). They are a five star dealership and will give you a good deal!:bman:

I bought my 2001 Dodge Neon for $7000.00 2 years ago! I was pretty happy, but now I see that it only books for somewhere around $4k. But don't care cause I love it! I get anywhere from 25 mpg in town to 30 mpg interstate!

If you don't intend on keeping the car, don't buy new. And heck, I guess even if you do intend on keeping it, don't buy new. Find an '03 or '04 with low miles. A friend of mine just picked up an '03 SXT, has 33k miles on it, it's black and included every possible option including sunroof. He paid $9k for it through a dealership. He doesn't seem like the "negotiating" type, so I don't know if he might have been able to do even better. I suspect he could have because neons aren't exactly known to hold their value.
I paid $11k brand new for my '96 (white one below) and a few years ago I paid $400 for my '95 (red one below).

Boy, I was you last year, had an '01 Dodge Ram Club Cab Longbed that got 11mpg on a good day. After gas topped $2/gal I sold it and earlier this year got an '04 Nissan Frontier. Like you, I didn't really need that big of a truck.
I just got my son a '99 SOHC Neon Highline Sedan with 39K for just under $4K at a local dealership, which was about $1500 under dealer bluebook, and we're pretty happy with it. Seems like a good little car, comfy and smooth ride, a little more stylish than the Cavalier types, decent pickup for getting out in traffic. From what I read, the pre-'99 models had a bad headgasket design which was replaced after '98 I think. Haven't gotten a feel for mpg yet but it's stickered at around 25/30 city/hwy.
If you want to go with a better mpg pickup, you might as well forget Dodge. Even the Dakota V6 only gets around 15mpg, worse for the 4x4. I did a lot of research and the new GMC/Chevy Canyon/Colorado V5's get the best mpg compared to the various V6 offerings and still have decent power. I went with the Nissan Frontier, though, which was second in the mpg area (within 1mpg) but it's the only small/mid sized pickup that you can still get a 6 ft bed with a crew cab. Of course, the 05's can't anymore so you'd have to go used. I got my used '04 Frontier for under $18K with around 25Kmi on it, and that was for a 4x4 and a bunch of extras.
Hope that helps,
Jeff K.

I live in johnson city/bristol tennessee and i got my neon for 11,700. The sticker was 15500. It has power windows and door locks, cd and tape player, remote keyless entry, it is a 5speed i chose that. It is the pearl blue color. It was either that, yellow or orange, the orange is cool. If it is an auto that you want i would try and get it for 12000 or less, mine doesnt have a sunroof though but i wasnt very picky, just wanted to make sure it was a 5 speed. I get great gas mileage though, usually 30/32 miles per gallon, and for a 12.5 gallon tank i get around 350 to 375 miles per tank which is alot for such a small gas tank. Only usually costs around 24 dollars or so to fill it up with 89 octane. But as cheap as you can get a new one right now with all the rebates going on, i wouldnt get a used one unless you cant afford it. You can get better interests rates if you get a new one. Good luck let us know how it goes. Oh and when you get one and want to fix it up be sure to visit www.howellautomotive.com and www.modernperformance.com they have just about everything you will need for it, be it performance parts or body kits. Good luck.

I don't think they made an R/T ACR....they are two different models.
That would be like an Expresso SXT.
Unless of coarse you have replaced a few things.

We (my daughter and I, although it's HER car technically LOL) picked up a 97 with 51K miles, SOHC, Auto trans, in almost perfect condition for $2500. The seller wanted 3K, but we talked him down. Only problems were an oil leak (camshaft sensor gasket), and now a tranny line leak, both minor. Shop around, we both love the car, but I never get to drive it (funny that way, since she paid for it, huh?)
