Anybody with some insight to this with some experiance under their belt? I have done a few of these, and have a minor in electrical engineering, but the FSM is no wheres near as complete as the GM ones that I am used to.
At anyrate, the local comapany insists that I need a spare key for the remote start module, even though I insist that it does not have the sentry system. I think I know that I am not doing buisness with them, and probably going to roll my own.
But in my old age, sometimes writing a check is the better (easy!) option. :rck:

I also want to install a window roll up/down module.

The locals also say that I need a Dodge/Chyrsler power door lock module. Is this just a diode matrix, or something else?

Thanks,

Peter

Well I'm by no means an expert in this area but when I had my system installed they had to take the chip out of the key and mount it in the stearing colum. this allowed it to remote start without the key being in the ignition.

If you want to find out whether you have that system on your ride or not, shut it off and sit inside. Lock the doors with the key remote and I believe after thirty seconds it is armed. If you grab the door handle from inside and open the door the horn alarm will start going off. If you have the blinking light it blinks fast at first and then slows down once armed.

I know when I checked into getting the remote start put on the place was recommending to take the chip from the key and mount it inside near the steering column somewhere. I decided it was way to much of a headache to deal with, and while I am lazy sometimes, I figured I could muster up enough energy to stick the key in and turn it.

Nope, don't have it!

I was just running thru the Factory Service Manual, and am stunned however. It's ALL MULTIPLEXED. Everything! What was wrong with a simple headlight switch? Now, you have a switch that controls a resistance network. This sends code over the data buss which the Front Control Module interupts as turn the headlights on. Same for just about everything else on the thing. Down to the parking lights, backup lights, etc. They even have a relay click in the cabin for the sole purpose of providing the normal click we here for a turn signal. I guess we wont have to replace a turn signal flasher for a while (ever!).

All I can say is this system better be dead nuts reliable, or it will be a pain in the wallet!

I install alarm remote starts for a living. If you have a 2004 durango with a remote built into the key it has a chip in it. I would recommend getting a module to bypass it and not take the chip out of the key so the security system will still work. You dont need a module for the locks or parking lights, you can use resistors to activate them.

I really don't think I have it. From what I can tell looking at the FSM, it seems more of a software enabled thing maybe? At any rate, there is no security light on the instument cluster that turns on. Also, there is no alarm. You can sit in the D and lock it via the remote, then just unlock, and open the door.

Hi guys I am new to this forum. I believe there is a factory remote start available for the new Durango. I believe its plug and play no wire splicing this especially comes in handy if you have both the skim and theft alarm. Last time I checked I saw a listing for it but it was not available @ the time this was months ago. If I can remember I will check the new acc. book on Friday.

I had a Viper 560XV alarm with remote start installed on my 04 D. Both the alarm and remote start work Great. I don't have the factory sentry system, however if I did the installer said; all that would be needed is an additional module from Viper so they do not have to take a chip from a key.

I normally do it myself, but on this one I wrote the check. For $600. That is a DEI remote start/alarm/windows up/down/ garage door up down, and remote turn on of the defroster, and a backup sonar alarm.
