I have a 99 Durango with the 5.2. I tried to shift it into 4wd today but it is very difficult to move the shifter and I can't get it to go into 4wd. Is my transfer case shot? If so, how much money am I looking at? If not, what could it be? FYI...I just had the transfer case fluid replaced about 1 1/2 months ago at a tranny shop. I am not sure if it was working before that as I have not used it since last winter.

Rolling? How fast? Shift on the fly? 4H or 4L?

I tried at a stop sign. I tried going about 15 mph and I tried in park. When I was in park, I actually got it to move a little. I was able to get in in 4L once in park, but now it won't move into 4L or 4H (it does move some, but not easily and not enough to get into 4L or 4H).

Try holding the brake and keeping the truck in neutral, then switching. BTW, this isn't a solution our D's have shift on the fly, in other words, we do not have to stop or even switch to neutral to switch between 2WD, PT4WD, or FT4WD.

It is shift on the fly so you can go between 2WD and 4HI without stopping.. but in order to go to 4LO, you do need to be stopped or at a very slow pace.

If I remember correctly you have to be in nuetral with the automatic trans to be able to shift in to 4Lo either stopped or at a slow speed of like 3mph. I couldnt get mine into 4Lo stopped the other day except once after really tweaking the shifter back and forth I was able to pop it in for a quick second and then I referred to my owners book and it said what I just stated if im recalling it correctly.
