I counted the flashes of the "check engine" light. It gave me a 12, then a 43, then a 55.

What I found told me 12 was: 12* Battery Disconnect
Direct battery input to PCM was disconnected within
the last 50 Key-on cycles.

43 is: 43** P0300 Multiple Cylinder Misfire
or
P0301 Cylinder # 1 Misfire
or
P0302 Cylinder # 2 Misfire
or
P0303 Cylinder # 3 Misfire
or
P0304 Cylinder # 4 Misfire
or
P0305 Cylinder # 5 Misfire
or
P0306 Cylinder # 6 Misfire
or
P0351 Ignition Coil # 1 Primary Circuit
or
P0352 Ignition Coil # 2 Primary Circuit
or
P0353 Ignition Coil # 3 Primary Circuit
Misfire detected in multiple cylinders.
Misfire detected in cylinder # 1.
Misfire detected in cylinder # 2.
Misfire detected in cylinder # 3.
Misfire detected in cylinder # 4.
Misfire detected in cylinder # 5.
Misfire detected in cylinder # 6.
Peak primary circuit current not achieved w/ max. dwell time.

huh??

and 55: Completion of fault code display on Check Engine Lamp.

I pulled plugs. They look nice and normal.

Where to next?

look nice and normal but they might still not work. There might be an internal problem that you can't see in either the plugs and wires. I would suggest get a new set of wires and plugs.

what engine you have?

2.4 l engine. The wires are fairly new. Still under warranty. may return and replace them. The plugs look good.

I filled the tank last night and drove it to work. On the way home, the light went out.

pull the negitive battery to clear the codes and reconnect and let it go and see if it comes back. Does it run ok? If one cylinder was misfiring you would notice it right away just in the way it runs and have no power especially a 4 cylinder.
