Looks great, but my girlfriiend, Nancie, doesn't like stripes and would prefer I put the money in getting more power!
I'm keeping this girlfriend!:D
BTW - She says I don't scare her when I drive my Viper with her in it and she's been in it at 3/4 throttle.

I've only had her up to 133 MPH so far. Maybe I should take her from 65 MPH to 145 MPH at full throttle - give her a stop watch and see how much faster it goes than it did the first two times (5.0 seconds each time) since it now has a little more power.
I bet I can scare her after this winter's improvements are completed...
...even at part throttle.
I bet I can scare me, too!

Why do people get so scared when you go fast, sure there is risk of getting hurt or injured but you live once you have to rebel a little bit.
SUN RA KAT
08-16-2004, 03:40 PM
In most cars it isn't safe to go fast, but it's safe in the Viper (except for speed limit laws). In the Viper it's how fast it accellerates to get up to speed (65 MPH to 145 MPH in just 5.0 seconds). I guess my Viper's top speed of 204 MPH (my Viper has enough power to go 220 MPH, but that would exceed the redline limit in 5th gear) would be scarey, too, but I haven't gone above 151 MPH (and that was at Mid Ohio Sports Car Track at half throttle 1/3 of the way down the back straightaway.

DO IT DO IT after the winter mods.... i thought vipers were all 6 speeds?
SUN RA KAT

"DO IT DO IT after the winter mods.... i thought vipers were all 6 speeds?"
The Viper's 6th gear is an EPA gear to get the gas guzzler tax down to only $3,000.
The stock Viper rear end is 3.07 and the 6th gear is an overdrive of 0.5. 2,000 RPM in 6th gear is 100 MPH, 3,000 RPM is 150 MPH, but there isn't enough horsepower to make it to the 6,000 RPM redline and be going 300 MPH.
In 5th gear 6,000 RPM is 204 MPH and my Viper has enough horsepower to go 220 MPH (but I would need slightly larger diameter tires to actually go 220 MPH).
Several states out west do close down public highways for all-out speed runs for those cars that can pass tech inspection. A Viper pretty much the same as mine averaged 199.58 MPH over a course of 78 miles in Nevada last year.
A Viper exactly the same as mine did 0-200 MPH in 30.0 seconds.
I've timed mine twice going 65-145 MPH in 5.0 seconds. (I'm not saying where until the statute of limitations expires, though.) I used 3rd and 4th gears shifting around 5,600 RPM. (6,000 RPM in 4th gear is 151 MPH). If I wasn't rapidly approaching traffic up ahead I might have shifted into 5th gear...
...and broke my personal high speed of 151 MPH in 4th gear at Mid Ohio Sports Car Course - half throttle only 1/3 of the way down the back straightaway - last year at Viper Days driving school. I only used 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gears to get out of the pits and after that I left it in 4th gear for the entire course - the Roe Supercharger produces over 600 feet/pounds of torque from 2,000 RPM to 6,000 RPM and peaks at over 700 feet/pounds around 3,000 RPM.

o so to basically the 6th gear is so tall that you accelerate to slow to overcome the drag your car is making?
SUN RA KAT
08-17-2004, 01:29 PM
In a stock Viper 6th gear will hold you at speed, but accelleration is so slow that it is usually downshift time if you want to speed up rapidly.
In a Roe Supercharged Viper 6th gear easily gives you decent accelleration for 90% of all situations. A downshift to 5th gear gives you frighteningly fast accelleration for the 10% of the time that rapid accelleration is needed. A downshift to 4th gear is almost never needed unless you want to just show off.

zEus, or anyone else for that matter - if you can get to my part of Ohio (near Dayton) - and there's nice weather, I'd be glad to take you for a ride (but you have to go to the restroom before getting in, for obvious reasons - hee hee) at part throttle (I almost never use full throttle except at a race track and even then often I can't get into full throttle until the top of 3rd gear unless the track is prepped real good).

*needs to go change his jeans now after reading about Kenny's Viper*
I swear, one of these days... I'm gonna have to take leave and make a road trip out there just to take a ride in that thing.
After you get all the winter mods done, that should be more then enough to still rapidly accelerate even in 6th won't it?
I still think you should take it to the flats and just let it all out after this winter...

I can relate to what Kenny is saying. This summer my buddy took me for a ride in his Viper. His is bone stock, but I thought I was going to $hit myself when he nailed it to the floor. I asked him if he had it in 2nd gear and he just smiled and said no, it was in 4th. Wow what a rush!!!!!

6th gear feels like 5th gear in a stock Viper except you are going much faster
5th gear feels like 4th gear in a stock Viper except you are going much faster
4th gear feels like 3rd gear in a stock Viper except you are going much faster
3rd gear feels like 2nd gear in a stock Viper except you are going much faster
2nd gear feels like 1st gear in a stock Viper except you are going much faster
1st gear feels like you're very glad you went to the bathroom before getting in

Sorry, guys. Unless you have a lot of seat time driving a Viper that's modified way beyond stock you would be taking your own life in your hands literally. And you aren't in the slightest ready for that. I think all will agree to that statement when I take you for a demo ride at only part throttle the way my Viper is now.
Remember - my Viper has 200+ more horsepower than a stock Viper at the rear wheels. This coming spring should have it having 150-200 more rear wheel horsepower than it has now, and possibly more. That will be the end of modifications for insane power. I will be learning to drive it with the extra power very, very carefully and slowly.
Fortunately, I've planned ahead and have a spare set of Michelin Pilot C 335/30/18 rear tires with stickers on them ready in my garage...

08-17-2004, 08:21 PM
Oh yea, I wouldn't actually expect to be able to jump behind the wheel... the Viper itself is something you have to slowly work yourself into... let alone one setup as this. It's definatly a nice ride... and if I find myself out that way, I'll be looking for ya. :)

I'd gladly fill your gas tank for a ride(not getting down that way this year). The fastest I have ever ridden was 147mph in a 92 vette. Obviously it took a lot longer to get to that speed, but damn people dont realize how fast that is! Im no puss when it comes to driving and racing, but people just dont understand what that feels like, i love it!

the closest thing ive ever been to that fast is 150-160 MPH in my buddies supra. we did everything to it. cam gears, pullys, big single turbo upgrade, NOS, i mean everything and it probably couldnt do 1/2 of what yours can. he let me drive his and i thought i was goin fast....then the turbo kicked in. damn id like to see what that viper can do

I guess when you got a Viper and you talk about it, its expected that you will give rides. By the way any chance of getting a ride in NY, jk. Amazing vehicle, I commend you all for your purchases.
Oh yea Sun Ra Kat, do you have any times (0-60 and 1/4) for that beast?
SUN RA KAT
03-25-2005, 06:04 PM
I'm very inexperienced at drag racing. My Viper Tech took mine on an 11.6 @ 125 run on a poorly prepped track in 2003. He is pretty sure he can get it in the low 11's now and high 120's now. And this is on the stock Michelin tires at the same tire pressure I drive it on the street. Lower the tire pressure and it picks up 2-3 tenths. On a good track with stock tires with the tire pressure lowered and a real good driver it should run 10.7 @ 132.
0-60 is a toughy - I ran it in the V-10 Nationals at Columbus, Ohio last year and on Friday I couldn't get to full throttle until the top of second gear, and at times the bottom of 3rd gear. In 2003, I ran it at another sorta local track and I went through the trap at 135 MPH, but my time slip said it was 119 MPH - it was such a scary ride - losing traction the entire 1320 feet - that I pulled it into a parking space and watched the rest of the night. So, to answer your question - 0-60 takes one shift to 2nd gear with my stock gear of 3.07 around 50-57 MPH - I would say anywhere from 2.9 to 3.9 seconds, depending on how well the traction is.
I got my Sean Roe Water/Methanol Injection System and reprogrammed VEC2 memory cards today. I'll be taking it to the dyno soon after the installation to get HP, Torque, and Air/Fuel to see if the VEC2 Computer Cards need to be tweeked any.
