Just installed Dodge tow hitch. Still waiting for Dodge wiring harness. Was wondering if I need to do anything to the suspension (ie special shocks, air bags, etc.) Any thoughts?

My guess is that at least air shocks and an on board compressor to run them. I would not want to run that independant rear suspension very far with lots of deflection in the half shafts. It will shorten the life of the u joints at a minimum. Who knows how expensive and how difficult they will be to replace.

Was this put on an SXT or RT?? If SXT was it the smaller received or 2 inch receiver. Did you have dodge do this or someplace else??
Sorry for all the questions but I am also going to put a hitch on my SXT.

Dodge dealer-That way if I ever have warranty problems-I'll just point a finger to them

ONLY get the factory hitch. It completely disappears when not being used. Maybe the best designed part on the car.

When I ordered my RT, the tow package was not available. I plan to order the factory hitch kit. Can the Dodge parts department also order the Nivomat load-adjusting shocks from the factory? I don't want to modify the suspension with air bags, etc.

load leveling shocks are a factory option only from what I have been told. That may change in the future who knows. Seems like it would be relatively simple to install. Shocks, compressor and a sensor to determine when to add or remove air from the shocks.

Can you post a pic? I was thinking about getting the tow package. Thanks.

Nivomat load leveling suspension shocks are a completely self contained shock with no external pumps , looks like an enlarged standard shock , looks like something that should be on a 1/2 ton truck . Nice design just don't want have to ever replace them at 4-500 dollars a piece . Have these on our Town and country with the tow package .

I installed the Mopar factory hitch reciever and the factory ball adapter. Even with the 2" hitch, the ball adapter is only rated at 2000 Lb tow, 200 Lb tongue weight. Both the SXT and RT are rated for that load WITHOUT the Nivomat load leveling shocks. Don't waste your money.
