Hello,

I am new here and to caravans. We just purchased a 2000 3.3L LE with a 112k. The origional tranny has been replaced with the updated tranny that was supposed to have the pin issue resolved.

Anyways, the tranny seems to work good, except when reversing with a load(like up a hill), I get a cyclic shudder. There are no noises associated with this feeling that I can hear. The transmission fluid smells and looks good and is at the full mark.

Any ideas on this?

Also, what is a good maintenance schedule for the trans? The dealer told me that if I do a fluid/filter change, I may do more harm than good because the fresh fluid will loosen up the varnish that is in the transmission. What are your thoughts on this?

TIA,
Dan

My caravan sometimes shudders too when backing up a hill (like my driveway). It doesn't happen all the time but it does happen every now and them. Maybe it's normal? I have about 111k on my 2000 3.0 minivan with, as far as I know, the original tranny.

Well, we are at 98KM with our 2000 3.3 SWB SE and I get the same shudder on reversing in an incline. I had noticed it before, but was more prominent last night, my wife is the one who dries it mostly and she wouldn't comment on "minor" stuff. Let me know what you find out.

I had the same problem with my '07 a few years ago with a bit over 100,000 miles on it. On the last day of our summer vacation, I had a CV shaft break (oddly enough, not the joint, the solid part of the shaft broke) and had it towed into a local transmission shop. While they were doing the CV shaft, they strongly recommended that I have them change fluid in trans, and go over it. I knew in addition to the shuttering in reverse, it was also shuttering at highway speeds occasionally, and slipping in reverse. In the end, I wound up with a $600 bill, but they replaced I believe two solenoids, and adjusted the trans, in addition to the fluid change, and the CV shaft. That was about three years ago now, and I haven't had a bit of trouble out of it since.
