Hi.

Im kind of clueless here, im a computer guy wanted todo some work on a Single Cab 2004 Dakota SXT 4x4.

I was thinking that some bigger tires to fill in the well would look alittle bettter but im worried about what else would have to be done(along with how much that would cost and if its something i could pull off myself or with alittle help).

Can anyone tell me how much bigger i could make it without having to worry about my suspension and braking?

Also, while my tires are getting taller, would alittle wider do me any good? Mostly a highway driver, but alittle off road and i do get a nice amount a snow.

Thanks

You can put any tire you want on there as long as the overall height is the same or very close to what you have now then your only other problem would be if the tire rubs or not.

and those are my 2 problems :D

I want to fill in the wells so the overall hieght will be bigger.

Would it be that hard to add a few more inches to it? Much work/money?

Is that the max limit(of same overall hieght) or can i sefely go alittle pass that?

Thanks

It would be a big help if we know what size you have now. Then go from there.

What 2k2 said..........Also, if you only do a little offroading and you drive in the snow, I would recomend staying with the same width that you have now. In the snow it is better to have a narrow tire than to have a wide tire, and a lot of highway driving you want to keep it narrow as well. A wider tire will take away from gas milaege. I have heard of people putting on a 32" tire without rubbing. You may have to adjust your torsion bars to get some extra clearence, but you may not. It all depends on where they are set from the factory.

Generally, putting on a bigger tire (increasing the OD) will require a speedometer recalibration as well.

i used to have a 99 club cab 4x4 with factory 31x10.50 tires. I put on 32x11.50 BFG all-terrains and they rubbed against the frame at full lock. At the time I didn't know about the torsion bar trick, that might have helped. But the real solution is aftermarket wheels with a different offset, or a different size tire. You might consider a 33x10.50 tire... you would probably have to jack up the torsion bars and maybe trim the front bumper but they sure would look badass!

Last year I put on 265/75 16 with stock suspension & no body lift, fills the wheel well nice and no rubbing. The tires measure 31.6" o.d. , 8" wide tread , 10.5" wide section.

I have 31s BFGs on mine with no other mods. They fill the well better, but they're not over the top. Just take the truck to the dealer and have the tire size reset in the PCM

I believe the stock diameter is 28"

Im running 33s on a completely stock suspension 2000 dakota 4x4. no cranking of torsion bars. All I had to do was trim the corner of the air dam and the back inside corner of the wheel well which is plastic. Other than that it does have a slight rubbing at full turn. I was running mud tires on it but I switched to GY wrangler ATs I have a buddy who works at Just tires as a manager so I got a good deal on them and he said if Im not satisfied hell swap them for MT. I have a almost new set of MT tires sitting at home. I took them off cause I got tired of the constant roaring of the tires and wanted somethign a little quieter since I go on long trips with the dakota
