I've got an 86 Power Ram 318 2 barrel. I had a bunch of rats chew up the wires to my electric choke and it was summer so I just unbolted the choke. Now that's it's cooling off it's a lot tougher to start and I don't think that carb is working that well either.
So I figured why rebuild the 4 barrel when I could spend a little more and do a 4 barrel swap?
I was looking at the carb and it has some wires going to it. It's an 86 so it should be before the electronic BS right?
Will my truck run ok if I just get rid of those wires and run a 4 barrel? It's not computerized is it?

i would buy a 4 bbl with electric choke it should hook up to your old wires. also just find where mice didnt chew up the wire and put a new wire in for it

Is that all those wires control? There's more than just the regular 2 wires for the electric choke.

actually 83 318s started that electronic stuff. With todays fuel you may want to keep the 2b carb. I used to run a built 360 with a Holley 2210 and never had an issue.

Sounds like you have a Holly 6280 which was used in '86 along with the 2280. Both were 2bbl carbs for the 318. The 2280 has only the idle solenoid and the 6280 has the idle solenoid and a bowl vent solenoid.

Can I just leave that crap unhooked with my 4 barrel?

I know you can on the idle solenoid as my truck has the 2280 and that's been disconnected for years with no trouble. Not sure about the bowl vent solenoid or how or where it is vented to. Maybe someone else has experience with the 6280 and can chime in.

I guess I'll find out when I do the swap. haha

Poison,
I don't know how electronically "integrated" into everything else the carb on an '86 is. If the truck doesn't have to pass a look-and-sniff emissions test, however, it would be a simple matter to install a Mopar Performance or other non-ECU-dependent ignition if you find that the existing system won't allow the truck to run without a feedback carb hooked up to it.
Good luck -- and buy an Edelbrock 4-bbl, not a Holley. You will thank yourself later.

I wholly agree. Ditching the spark control computer was the best thing I ever did for my truck and depending on how you go about it the job can be very simple.

The bowl soleniod connects to the charcol vapor canister which is vacuumed out when you drive down the road. If your replacement carb has a connection, hook it up so you can recover the vapor.

I plan on just putting an Edelbrock 650 or so on it. It's just a ranch truck, I don't need anything fancy.
I'd rather not do any ignition mods since it just puts around my ranch
