I have a 87 D150 , my problem is everytime i am driveing between 50 and 60 there is a bad wobble coming from the rear passenger side.It only does it between these speeds,my rims and tires are balanced which they are fairly new.I have checked the u-joints to see if they are lose they seem tight and the nuts on them are snug. When coasting down the road if you put it in neutral while between these speeds it still has the wobble feels just like a warp rim but it's not.Anyone ever had this problem?

Are you sure it's the rear? How do you know? If so, sounds like a bent axle. If you jack it up in the back so the rear wheels are off the ground and run it in gear, you should be able to see the wheel wobbling if the axle is bent.

It might be that your drive shaft is unbalanced? I know I've seen a few weights on mine that I guess are for balancing? Could be that they came off at some point...?

Sounds like a broken belt in a tire.

I've had tires that would cause wobble or vibrations at certain speeds that were perfectly balanced according to the tire shop. Ask the shop to balance them again and let them know there is a problem at 50-60. Sometimes that helps. Weights can and sometimes do get thrown off a rim. Also make sure the rim is seated properly on the wheel studs. I've seen people tighten the first lug nut too tight and cause the rim to be slightly cocked by not allowing the other lugs to pull the rim to center.

Try rotating your tires to see if the vibration moves and inspect them at the same time.
I had a tread seperation on a front wheel and I had what felt like a wobble in the rear end the week prior at slow speed with vibration at high speed until the tread went blammo on the freeway.

Well the tires and rims were bought brand new for the very reason cause i thought the tires/rims were bad and it was doing it before i had the new rims and tires put on.I will jack it up and see if the rearend looks bent like speed said.I also check the driveshaft it stills has the weight on it but still there again i guess this don't mean the drive shaft still isn't out of balance.

I would check the u-joints again. Jack both rear tires off the ground, put the car in neutral and rotate the driveshaft back and forth by hand and see if there is any play in the u-joint.

Make sure u joint is centered in rear axle yoke. If the clips have come off the joint it could have slid to one side causing it to viberate. This is probably not the problem, but worth looking into.

Well i got around to checking out my truck today.I jacked the rear of the truck up and the wheels seem nice and ever while in drive, everything seems to be ok there, then i inspected the drive shaft and u-joins they seem fine also. But when i wiggle and ture the driveshaft at the front yoke there is play coming from the trans where the yoke slides in could this be the problem?

Marty,
Not sure what you mean. A bit of radial play in the tranny when in "Park" -- and the diff, too, for that matter -- is normal. What you want to look for is movement in the u-joints when you turn the driveshaft -- NO play should be present there.
As far a your wobble goes, try tuning the driveshaft with the tranny in neutral (rear wheels off the ground, front wheels chocked) and see if it is bent.

Any mud stuck to the rims, inside or out?

JeffI got around to jacking the rear wheels up on the truck today.I inspected both rear and front u-joints they still seem tight and no play, but still at the front u-joints where the yoke slides into the transmission tail the yoke has a lot of play in it.If you slighty turn the driveshaft back and forth there is a lot of play in the transmission end.Should the yoke have alot of play in it even the u-joints seem fine no play or movement in them.

No it shouldn't, you shouldn't really be able to wiggle it at all. You may have an internal trans problem, bad output shaft bearing or something.

A worn tailshaft bushing and yoke with worn splines will allow the yoke to wobble. (I assume it has a sliding spline.) Also with the driveshaft loose at the u-joint it should have about 3/4" or less to bottoming out of the yoke on the tailshaft. More will allow the yoke to wobble more.

Will the bearing be hard to replace or would it be a pain in the rear to takcle?

Pull that shaft and recheck that front U joint seperate from the truck. U joints arent very expensive, might wanna change em anyway. And be sure you get the greasable ones and don't forget that they have fittings at oil change time.
