my winter project this year is to do the body work on the box

I got some replacement wheel opening patch panels

the rest of the sheet metal I can fab up myself

I will lift the box off the chassis to make it easier to work on - the truck takes up almost my entire single car garage; with just the box in the garage I will at least have room to change my mind if nothing else

The question is - does anyone know approximately how much the box weighs

this will dictate how I lift it and what I will rest it on while I am working on it and underneath it n the underneath part is particularly important as I do not want it falling on me while i an underneath it

Mike,

Just guesstimating, I would suppose that the box weighs about 800 to 1,000 lb.

I would consider supporting it with four stout sawhorses built from new pressure-treated wood and gusseted (reinforced) across the ends.

Unless your garage has some mighty strong trusses and you have a pretty stout block-and-tackle, I would suggest six strong men to lift the bed off the frame while one drives (or two roll) the cab and chassis out of the way. of course, strip it of tailgate, taillights and anything else beforehand.

Now watch: Bherder, Speed and any number of other on-the-ball DodgeTalkers will come up with solutions so much better and so much simpler that we will both say, "Now, why didn't I think ot that?!?"
