Hi, I just bought a 1998 Grand Caravan SE and it has the factory radio/tape in the dash. It is not 'cd ready' so I was wondering if anyone knew the part no for a factory CD receiver that will fit into the dash to replace the existing one?

I need to listen to my CDs when driving, so any help would be appreciated!

The part no for the existing one is P04858556AC.

Hi,

I would strongly recommend AGAINST putting a factory radio/CD player back into this vehicle. I have owned three Chrysler vehicles with the radio you are replacing, and they simply don't last. Going to a dealer for the replacement radio is obviously expensive, and if you go through a junkyard or Ebay, you won't know what you're getting. Whatever you get, it's been my experience that they start having problems of one sort or another at about 3-4 years old.

My suggestion, go to your nearest public library that stocks back issues of Consumer Reports or Stereo Review, and pick out the best unit they recommend in the price range you're shopping. My local Wal-Mart stocked a mounting plate that was a perfect fit, AND a wiring harness adapter that came with pretty good instructions/wiring diagrams that allowed me to use the factory plugs. I installed a Kenwood AM/FM/CD player in my 1996 Town & Country in about an hour. And the stereo shop I bought it from gave me two free speakers that went in another car I own.

Just my opinion.

Go to www.crutchfield.com . If you buy here they will give you complete instructions on how to install it in your particular vehicle and will give you all the adaptors that will plug into your existing vehicle wiring . Just solder to the stereo wires and then plug into existing wiring , they show you how and what the wires are for . Easy with there instructions . They have good prices and name brand car audio gear.
