O.K., I'm kind of stuck on this one. '99 Durango, 103,600 miles, 5.9 (360). When leaving a light, or starting from a stop, engine rpms climb to near 5200 before shifting from first. :help: Fine through range unless I go to pass someone, I'll say it's trying to downshift into first and hits the rev limiter. I replaced the TPS, checking the voltage and adjusted the transmission throttle cable. Helped with the starting from stop, but still having trouble trying to get into it. Could TC be going, or would something cheap like a flush do? Or, am I flashing back to the 60's  Any help would be appreciated.

 14 Views, no replies. I adjusted the throttle cable 9/16, it's better off the line, but still is tough trying to pass. Any mechanics, or previous experienced, please drop me a line. I just want to make sure I'm not killing my transmission. Thanks in advance.

:argue: O.K. I'm talking to myself. Just finished a three and a half day 1800 mile round trip. Averaged 17.1 mpg, I can't mash my pedal below 65, but it'll still cruise 80+. Seemed to want to stay in first after one refill, turned it off, restarted and shifted like it has been. :rck: Due to the lack of responces, I guess :dunno: my transmission will be alright. I do miss blowing people off at lights :drivingz: but guess I'll get over it :SNO: Now at 105,800 miles and growing

shot in the dark, but whens the last time you've changed your transmission fluid? the manual says to adjust your throttle valve, which it sounds like you've all ready done. usually when no one responds they don't want to give you the wrong info. myself included

Rockadaous, Transmission filter / adjustment @ 80,000 I think. :o I had it done right after I lost the speed sensor in my rear axle. Had it done @ a Dodge dealer in Ohio. :rck: I checked fluid levels (of course) and condition. I'm old school when it comes to mechanics, points/plugs/condensor. :STY: I've swapped a 318 out to a 440 in a '77 Trailduster. :rocket: I'm just concerned with the symptoms and want to make sure I'm not supposed to be saving up for a major repair. :help:

did you adjust the throttle cable before or after the problem started? 9/16 is a lot if you tightened it that much. I moved my TV cable about a 1/16 inch to get some stiffer line pressure and firmer shifts but I had to mess with it for about 3 hours to find what I like, that thing is very sensitive.
