Hi, New to this site have read some of the post and found them to be informative. My problem is I'm thinking about purchasing a 01 Stratus Coupe that has a transmission problem. The car starts up fine but when you put the car in drive or reverse nothing happens. Has anyone had this problem and fixed it??? Second the person selling the car said that a transmission from a 2000 or 2001 Mitsubishi Galant or Eclipse would work. I saw a trans on Ebay and the seller said it would also fit a Chrysler Sebring is this true? I would like to know what other model cars uses the same transmission and could there be an easy fix for the one thats in it.

What the problem is, is the front pump drive in the transmission has broken. At least that's what happened with mine, and we found out afterward that it happens to a lot of these transmissions. It's called a pattern failure. Buying a tranny from a salvage yard may produce the same result down the road if the tranny you buy hasn't been worked on either. Any reputable transmission shop has access to the parts required to fix it because a part upgrade has been made to replace the faulty pump and drive. It all depends on what all else got broken when the pump drive came apart. I was lucky by the fact that most all stuff was held in by the filter and the fact that the car didn't run at all after the failure happened. Most shops opt to install a new or remanned transmission with a failure like this though. I have a friend with a garage that took the time to disassemble, clean and evaluate everything and then repair only what needed repaired. It still cost $1000. though. You don't want to know how much a new or remanned tranny costs, it's probably more than the car is worth. My $.02
