Hi, I have a few questions about a 71 340 for sale in my area, heres the add:

New 474 lift mopar purple shaft cam, rings and bearings last year 340 915 J heads with stainless 2.02"/1.60" valves, mild port clean up. approx 10:1 compression forged pistons, beamed rods O ringed block with 340 intake & exhaust manifolds. Has 340 windage tray. Includes 800cfm Carter Thermoquad and Mopar performance distributor. Built 408 stroker to replace it. Can be seen running.

Im not 100% up on my engines, is the 340 internaly or externally balanced? I have an A833OD I was setting up for my 318 to go in my 76 D100. As you can see in my sig, this would be my dream set up. Will the 340 work with the 318 oil pan I think I would have to use for my truck?

The 318 and 340 use the same oil pan. An honest '71 will have a forged crank and be neutral balanced like a 318. Latter (73?) have a shot-peened cast crank that's external balanced, 8.5 compression, 1.88 intake valves and a smaller cam from the factory.
Look at the dampner closely to see it it's neutral balanced.

gotcha, so no special fly wheel needed and it will work with the input shaft from my 833 then?

318/340 share the same oil pan, motor mounts are different though. I can see from the pic. that it is indeed a steel crank 340. It will bolt right up to your A833.

as in i would have to use the mounts form my 318 or the location for the mounts on the block are different and my 318 ones wont work?

Its actually the driver side mount that you will need. The engine mount tabs on the block are spaced differently on the drivers side. 273/318 is one style, and 340/360 is another. You will need a driver side (LH) truck mount from a 360, since a 340 never came in a truck form the factory.
