I have a 2004 stratus 2.7L V6 and about four weeks ago it strates overheating while I was driving on a back road. I thought that it was the t-Stat but when I changed it to my surprise the car still overheated badly. When i again started to check for issues I seen that the water outlet was spraying a fine water out the bottom half where it should be sealed so i then changed that and once again drove the car just a very short distance and it overheated again inside a mile to the red line area. I have since thought about changing the head gasket but not sure if I should cause there are no signs that a head gasket is blown no white smoke from exhaust and no oil in the coolant or vise versa. The water pump is not leakin and water is getting to the top of the engine so i know that the pump is working. Also the check engine light came on about two months before this problem started and when I had the check engine light test thing done it said that the number 2 bank one o2 sensor was bad however I didn't think that it had anything to do with the overheating and I'm kinda hesitant to change anything else as its very expensive and I hate to spend money. Also not sure weather this has anything to do with the overheating issue but after I changed the t-stat and the water outlet the A/C has stopped working. Other then those two things the car runs like a dream but is def OVERHEATING. What else could cause an overheating problem and how do I fix this as this car has me confused. Thanks so much guys. the radiator might be clogged you might have to try and flush it

did you bleed the air out of the system?

Idk though cause it's getting water through the hose cause they are getting hot at the firewall. Would the O2 Sensor have anything to do with it overheating?

of course i did at least all that would come out. How exactly can you tell if antifreeze is coming out of the water pump and can it still have something wrong with it even if water and coolant are getting to the top of the engine? How do you do a pressure test or whatever to see if where the leaks are from? I'm just hesitant to try anything that i'm not familiar with or that is easy and dosen't concern any IMPORTANT PARTS. However I am willing to try anything at this point cause being without a car is a real pain the A**. Thanks though in advance to everyone and anyone that attempts to help me out.

what is the level in the system, also might want to check the radiator cap to ensure that its holding pressure. No presure no circulation. Also want to check to make sure you have the proper level of fluid in there, after a T stat change you can lose fluid and when the motor cycles thru it can fill in the empty spaces in the system causing youto "lose" fluid. Also coudl the temp sensor be bad? when this happens is everything very hot under the hood or is it just very warm.

After I changed the T-Stat I made sure that there was fluids in the engine. I understand what your saying though but when I drove it the first time after changing the T-Stat I brought 2 Gallons of water with me so that I could stop after a minute and see if more fluids were needed and by the time that I got out to the bridge at the end of my road which is like 2 miles long the car was OVERHEATED. So I of course popped the hood and look under there to see if any fluids were coming out and out of the bottom of the water outlet the black thing on the top of the engine that has a sliver bleeder so I changed that bled all the air out of the system and put any fluids that needed to be filled in and took her for a ride again and the samething it OVERHEATED. This time though I couldn't see any fluids coming from anywhere just the overflow was boiling and steam was coming out the overflow cap. About the rad in my car there is no direct why to get to the rad and there is no rad cap on the 2.7 V6 engine in the stratus it's on the overflow. And yes it is getting hot like all the rad hoses are getting hot at the firewall and as far as I can tell it's HOT to the touch you have to let it kool down before you can do anything with it. My B/F alomost got burnt because the overflow cap that he losened like almost blew off the overflow tank. But I said in my other post that about two months before the overheating started the check engine light came on and then went off and then would come on again like five or six days later and when i had this checked it said that the number two bank one O2 sensor was bad would that cause overheating? Thanks So MUCH and i am going to check that temp sensor thing. Um but would that make the car act like it was overheating or would it really make it overheat like mine is?
