A fellow is going to give me a 1983 W150 if I will just come and get it out of his yard. I have not seen the truck yet, but he told me over the phone that it has sat for about seven months. They evidently had lost the key to the truck and just let it go. Their son had attempted to get it going by taking the steering wheel off and was trying to replace the ignition switch, but for some reason just gave up. Anyway its just sitting there in the yard. Body is in very good shape, however it definitely needs paint. Very little rust other than surface. I think I'll hook up the trailer and go rescue it.;)
Other than repairing the ignition switch, changing fluids, removing old gas, etc., what would you suggest I do prior to trying to get her fired off?

I'd just give it a good once going over checking for bad wires and stuff that may cause a problem getting it going. Other then that hope it works out for ya.

D-bug,

And I would put dielectric grease on every electrical connection and ground I could reach (including the grounding point for the ECM).

Well I finally got the truck home. Went up today and trailered her back. The truck isn't running so I had to hand winch it up onto the trailer with a come-along. It was also sitting on about a 30 degree slope. Talking about a ball buster!
Eventhough it isn't running it was worth the trip as the body is in excellent condition. Other than some surface rust which the PO had sanded down and sprayed red primer all over. Original color is black and (get this) it has a "gray" interior. I don't think I've ever seen gray with a black exterior.
It still had the original owners manual in the glove box along with a couple of dealer brochures. It doesn't seem to have been abused at all.
Anyway, I've got to get a battery for it and I plan to put new plugs and wires on it and see if I can't get this ole girl fired up sometime next week.
Thought I'd show it off a little for you guys. The pictures are after I got it home and cleaned up a little. It had so much dirt, mildew and some kind of green stuff growing all over it that you couldn't even see out of the windows.
Not too bad though and the price was "right".;)
