Well, my D threw a P1740 code (TCC or O/D Solenoid Performance) a couple of weeks ago. I cleared it with my Superchips programmer hoping it was just a fluke - no such luck. I have noticed slight slipping, especially in the mornings when first driving and I often hit the rev limiter in 1st gear after launching hard off the line. The tranny shifts a little strange also. Nothing too bad, just not where it used to shift.

I took it to the dealer today to check out. I'm heading on a 5,000 mile roadtrip in a couple of weeks so she's got to be road worthy.

If there's any suggestions, I'm all eyes. I'll let y'all know what the dealer recommends. Oh, and of course I'm out of warranty.

Did you have any other indications, IE. Idiot lights? I'm having simular trouble, but haven't had codes read, due to lack of other indications. '99 SLT 5.9 103,000 miles.

Yes, the check engine light came on. The dealer called and told me I need a new torque converter (as I suspected). It's going to run me $1,134.28.

I was going to have a Mopar Performance stall converter put in since they were going to clobber me on labor but they told me there would be no warranty with a performance part. Warranties are for stock parts only and with the long drive coming up (Alaska), I'm not pushing my luck.

The code is thrown because the computer detects a difference in engine speed as compared to vehicle speed which logically leads to a slipping torque converter. It could be other things but most likely the converter.

If your converter is the problem, it will only get worse with time but I don't think it can cause any catastrophic damage if you let it go until you start to feel the slipping. It will hurt your gas milage, though.
