My 1999 Grand Caravan does not have Keyless entry (or at least if it does, I was not given any of the remotes when I bought it) (used).
So, I am considering adding an aftermarket alarm that has TONS of features.
My question is (in this thread)....
I have determined that my van DID come with keyless entry.
The new FOB is $37.00 at the Dodge Dealer. But they want 54.00 to "program" it...(joke).
Can anyone tell me how to self program the remote?
thx

From here:
http://www.justanswer.com/questions/jncm-1999-dodge-caravan-program-new
If you have lost the original, or it is inoperable, then the only way to start from scratch and program a new transmitter is by using a DRB-III scan tool to configure teh vehicle's RKE module to recognize a new primary transmitter. There is no manual method of programming a new one without a working one; the system is designed ths way to prevent a car thief from just programming a new one to your vehicle.

Phooey,
Possibly THE one and ONLY thing I would ever have to take my vehicle to a repair shop for..... AND 'IM RESISTING THAT !
I might prefer to install an aftermarket system than take my vehicle to a stealership.

Ok,
For anyone following this thread now or later.....
I just spoke with the dealer and Lewis at Arrigo Dodge (Sawgrass, FL) advised that the ONLY thing the FOB will do is unlock doors.
So, I purchased a CARVOX KING EAGLE 2 way alarm system. (I've heard a few complaints from the past but those all seem to have been resolved so I'm comfortable with it).
The KING EAGLE has the following features to name a few....
Remote Start
Keyless Entry
Notification by Pager up to 1 mile away if the vehicle is tampered with
Selective Door Unlock
Stealth Mode
Vehicle Locatiing
Valet Mode
Trunk Release
Panic Mode
Programmable Door Status Warning
Shock Sensor
Microwave Perimeter Sensor Input
Multi Level Arming
So, I suppose I'll install this one.
First Order of Business...
I need to determine what (if anything) I need to do withthe OEM factory alarm first. (Disable, Bypass etc).

Ok,
I can Lock and Unlock the doors with the Carvox King Eagle alarm now.
I can also ARM the alarm.....but It won't DISARM.
This one's got me stumped. The door has a Lock switch in it as well as a Arm/Disarm switch.
The Caravan utilizes a 1 wire locking system. So, by sending pulses of different current through the wire, it does different functions. I have three of the functions working, but for some reason the Factory Alarm Disarm isn't working and I can't seem to find the answer....yet.
It may be that for whatever reason, the control unit for the alarm is looking for a slightly different current pulse than what it's receiving.
Guess I'll need to devise a way to read that exact pulse in terms of current from the original circuit (the one the door switch is sending which works) to try and match it with a different resistor than the 660ohm resistor I've read that it calls for.
If anyone knows anything about installing aftermarket alarms in Caravns I would appreciate hearing from you.
thx
