Hello.

I'm a brand new member who has just purchased a 2002 caravan. So of course I am looking for help. I changed the filter and transmission fluid. I did this because any research I did here or at allpar said I said "its gotta be ATF+4 or your gonna have trouble". I guess paranoia gets the better of me sometimes. The change was un-eventful. I put in 5 quarts of fluid. It didn't look high on the stick but the van started leaking fluid out of what I assume is a vent tube that is directly below the battery tray. I pumped out some the excess fluid and the leak has slowed to the odd drop. Oil on the stick still looks okay. Could someone please confirm that this in fact us the vent tube? I am also curious to find out the routing of the tube? How does it get underneath the battery tray? have I caused any damage? Thanks in advance for any advice or comment. I am hoping that this vehicle lasts at least as long as my dearly departed 1988 Jeep Cherokee.

Welcome,
Did you check your oil level with trans warm and trans shifter in nuetral?
I know most vehicles have breathers for most drive components and over filling can allow this to foam up the tube.

Turns out it was leaking from the pan gasket. Right at the spot where the over flow tube for the battery tray touches the edge of the transmission pan giving the appearance that it was leaking from from the tube. The tube has nothing to do with the transmission at all. Gotta love this new fangled technology! Thanks for your reply. All fixed.

'99 was the last model year that was OK to use ATF3. Later years require ATF4.

ATF+3 should be OK. I don't know if you can buy atf+3 anymore, as anything running +3 gets switched over atf+4
