I've been pretty undecided about the new magnum until last night when I saw the Monster Garage build up of the Magnum. Now I see how sweet that it really is. :rck: I think that it has some great potential. I can't wait to see how people can trick it out.
I haven't talked to anybody or read anything about how the Magnum rides or drives. So if you have driven or know someone who has driven it. Post what you think or if you saw Monster Garage tell me what you think.

Episode 44: Dodge/Train Car
We're told it's been on Jesse's list since the beginning of Monster Garage: transforming a sleek speedster — in this case, a 2005 Dodge Magnum RT complete with hemi — into a speeding train.
Well, then. Another item checked off.
And now, to see pictures of the Dodge/Train Car click here, or just check out its specs below.
THE DESIGNERS
• Jesse James, custom-bike builder/designer, West Coast Choppers, Long Beach, Calif.
• Joe Nemmer, railroad-restoration specialist, Sonora, Calif.
• Tony Settelmeyer, hydraulics expert, Corona, Calif.
• Kenny Youngblood, graphic artist and car designer, Henderson, Nev.
THE BUILDERS
• Jesse James, custom-bike builder/designer, West Coast Choppers, Long Beach, Calif.
• Alton E. Burkhalter, welder and rail tank car builder, Houston, Texas
• Ryan Doty, Dodge Viper technician, Montclair, Calif.
• Robert W. Morris III, manufacturing engineer, Santa Rosa, Calif.
• Joe Nemmer, railroad-restoration specialist, Sonora, Calif.
• Tony Settelmeyer, hydraulics expert, Corona, Calif.
Hydraulics: Includes a 12-volt DC motor, 1.25-gallons-per-minute pump (capable of 1,000 psi), two-station parallel manifold, directional control valve, crossover relief valve, pilot-operated check valve and cylinders powered by nitrogen accumulators. Note: The hydraulic system was "overbuilt" due to safety concerns.
Moving Parts: Includes an arm system — attached to the frame, body and fender — for the train wheels.
Special Welds: The heavy load-bearing arm system that holds the four train wheels required strong vertical up-weave welds. MIG and TIG welds were both used on the "cow-catcher" in the front.
Additional Acquired or Machined Parts: Using an engine lathe, the team machined a new train wheel from a blank block of steel.
Body Modifications: The team removed the Dodge's rear storage area to fit the hydraulic system, and did minor fender work to make room for the train wheels.
Biggest Challenge: The team's biggest challenge was designing and assembling the train car without having the wheels available, which didn't arrive until the last day of the build. They also had to adjust to working in an unfamiliar environment.

I watched the show and IMHO as far as Monster Gargae goes it was a pretty whimpy build. It was hard to watch them tear the inside out. But it was great to get a good look under the Magnum  . Is that a weird muffler or what?
I thought as I saw Jesse clearly was kicking the train butt he began to steer. I found this very strange :dropjaw: . The Magnum then derailed and lost the race by 4 feet. Do you think Jesse threw the race?
The paint job was very cool

Where can I get that sweet new grill? Just kidding. Of all the things they could have done with a Magnum, they build a freaking train?

Not much of a "train" as it is. All they did was add the cow catcher and throww on some rail-riders (like the rail service trucks use anyway). Not much of a monster conversion if you ask me. I think Jesse screwed the pooch with this one.

i think jesse liked the magnum so much he didnt want them to mess with it that much..
i mean he drove it... he had to be impressed.... hell even if i had all the money in the world i wouldnt destroy the car... modify it...yes but not rip it apart

Jesse James lives a couple of miles north of me in Sunset Beach, CA. He's really a pretty regular guy. (BIG HOUSE on the beach) I'll ask him about that episode next time I see him.

Jesse has the best job in the world! I bet he has like 50 magnums, each with a different look. Hmmm..... Why not a train magnum.... Soon it will take off and land on water, then submerge like a submarine, and release nukes off the coast of korea.

I finally saw the episode last night... and it really wasn't much of a monster. But I must say that it's the only one that's really stuck to the build term of "It must remian stock looking". But yes, it was a bit odd at how he was sterring at the end... but it shouldn't have mattered as the hydraulics on the front should have lifted the front tires off the rail.
But here's a question... the Magnum lost the race, making it a failure... shouldn't it be put to sleep?

Undecided on the Magnum until they put train wheels on it now you're sold. I was sold on the car the first time I saw it. 22 inch wheels on a car now that's tight.

Jesse is good, I must admit. But, I'm not giving him my Magnum. What a butcher job to the nice clean lines of the car.

They only really hacked one part of it... and that's in the rear to make a notch for the rail wheels when they're raised.
